  • Yeah I think Hillingdon is supposed to be a good first one.

@mdcc_tester - they claim to be largely traffic free. Mind you until yesterday I didn't even know this circuit existed.

    See you on the 22nd?

  • they claim to be largely traffic free.

Yeah, it was a comment about how many bikes you have to avoid when there are 20+ riders on a circuit of less than a mile.

  • Aha.

    Oh you!

  • @Pifko see youre down for good friday Ringwood, fixed? whatever go on bang it out

  • Cheers! Yeah, fixed. First TT (Tri don't count), so all a bit of an unknown to me, including my fitness...We'll see what happens.

  • Keen on those Westerley CC evening TTs; can only manage after 22nd. Never done TTs; what is different than doing this on my own in Richmond park?

  • You can measure your bikes length against other people.

  • Yeah, fixed.

    Doin' it right!

  • You'll go faster with a number on your back.

  • And you can stand around with other testers after the event and compare excuses.

  • and dogs, dog walkers, walkers, skaters...

  • It's an officiated race. No number, no race. No race, no talk. #lookingatyoustrava

  • Actually the drag values of a number on your back are quite and interesting topic.... fades out tester waffle

  • When I used to run [doing it wrong] a windy race I would duck tape my number to my vest so it didn't parachute me a few mm off course. #marginalgains and so on...

  • I've seen others use clear tape wrapped around the whole number and tape under the number but I never bothered.

It's all about nopinz these days anyway.

  • Fair; will sign up on road bike. Who is up for 22nd? Jake Martin seems to be crushing all of them .. isnt @umop3pisdn London based now? @dan you keen?

  • Just a commuter for the time being. It's actually on my train line home but I'd struggle to get there in time, and more importantly with a bike.

  • I am signed up for next week but will sign up for 22nd unless I loathe it.

  • I'm signed up for 22nd. On a not-very-tt bike. I hope I can get out of work in time. What's Uxbrodge road like to cycle down?

  • Got the start sheet for the Friday 10. I'm gonna get spanked.

  • My bike is made for going a long way in comfort, not a short way in pain. Like you my first TT will be the one to get to the start on time.

  • People pay good money for that sort of thing

  • I think it was about a tenner. I'm sure that's well below the going rate.

  • I'm thinking about testing my legs for the first time this year (road bike, no TT) but will need to find something closer to SE London that I can ride out to after work. Out of interest, on a road bike is it daft not to use clip on aero bars or are you at such an aero disadvantage that you're only really racing yourself anyway?

  • the problem with clip on aero bars is that its likely to be a pretty odd position, as unless you move your position to accommodate, you'd probably be better staying in the drops as its a position you are likely to be used to and actually allow you to put some power down.

if its anything like any TT I've ever done even with a tiny field you'll have a range of people from those verging on elite level through to people pootling round.

In my experience there only a handful of people who are racing for the actual win, and you're always just racing yourself (although if you do the same race a few times there will be people you'll benchmark yourself against...)
