Thanks for this - interesting and put into terms my simple brain can understand. It also made me a little sad.

Hats off to Vettel for making things interesting. He's really got his head down and is going for it. Good to see Ferrari improve this much also.

Agreed! It's good to see Vettel in a non-championship winning car and showing what he can do. Looking forward to seeing him race with the pack this season.

There's a bit of talk (surprise and suspicion) about how Ferrari have improved their power unit so much. Things like have they somehow bypassed the fuel flow regulation, which is theoretically possible although illegal.
Or even illegally changed more than is allowed in their engine layout... Could be either, both or neither. They've definitely made huge gains though and I know James Allison is an exceptionally excellent engineer and this car is his baby. Good on them though. I'm glad they're challenging the Mercs. Someone needs to. -

Ferrari cheating? No way! ;)
-
• #4783
Unheard of, a shocking allegation- and they are held to the highest standards of all, never have they been treated as a special case...
-
• #4784
Can it be as simple as Ferrari finally implementing a design they had thought of, but Mercedes executed much better? If that did happen, they would have clawed back some power straight away.

I've always hated Ferrari...

There's some difference between gossip and facts. They're surrounded by experts in the matter who would happily take them down a peg or two. If there are facts to back it up, they'll come out.

Burn them with fire!!! #figureofspeech

The new headmaster appears to have all the kids in the Maranello playground getting on like a house on fire.

On the back of one of the previous comments, is Vettel a much more likeable character now that he's moved teams? Or is it just me?
-
• #4790
Well he's not erecting his finger any more.

"If there are facts to back it up, they'll come out."
You might be surprised at how few facts in this business do actually come out.
Edit: or rather at how many facts don't.

"The new headmaster appears to have all the kids in the Maranello playground getting on like a house on fire."
This is very likely. I know some good heads that have gone there with JA.

good race, nice to see vettel/ferrari take it

• #4794
So how have ferrari cheated?
Bigger Fuel lines?
Caman!?
-
• #4795
I guess you could bypass the fuel flow regulation with some kind of accumulator tank beyond the FIA sensor, so you always pull fuel at a legal rate from the main tank, but you have a pooled reserve you can drain at any rate you wish.

• #4796
Well that's put the cat among the pigeons... Good to see Mercedes have someone challenging them, even if it is the cheating Italians... #notracist

Two thoughts:
Why do we no longer have a rep button? Sad face, lots of comments here need repping.
Vettel! Haven't watched the race as I'm working, got it recorded, can't wait, this is going to be an awesome season!

• #4798
you could
then when the hash is clicked it takes you to all repbigben instances - not teh same as points tho!

It could be that and it could also be that he is a bit older. It could be that he is not winning.
I think I will cry if people start liking Ferrari and Vettel after all the stick they both got.

Yep.
I was under the impression that certain established circuits got a preferential rate and the new kids on the block actually paid the exorbitant fees.
