Swapping bb30 crankset

Posted on
  • can I swap out a bb30 crankset (force22 for compact force 22) without damaging the bearings?

If so what tools do I need, given that I am not pressing any new bearings in etc

  • Hi @apc. The swap should be very easy. You will need a 8mm Allen key to undo the bolt on the drive side. It's a self extracting system therefore the crank will come off on its own without the need of a crank puller. Once that's off you pull out the spindle and non-drive side crank arm. Lightly grease the new spindle on your compact crankset and reinstall all the washers and parts the way they came off the bike. Tighten to a recommended torque.

Last but not least you might need to lower and readjust the front derailleur to accommodate for a smaller chainring on the front.

    Cheers.

  • ...obviously you will need the bb30 version of the compact crankset, otherwise it won't fit.

  • unless you use an adaptor (e.g. Wheels MFG).

  • True, but that negates the benefits of having bb30. Nonetheless you're right, it can be done.
