A very nice chap from Finsbury Park Club this morning suggested that I try doing some time trials. For some reason this has made me happy, mainly because I am fat and old.
Grooming.

What a lovely ride in this morning, sun was out, not too windy, few roadworks, not too busy. 19.8 miles, 1Hr23min57secs.
This morns commute expressed as a boy band = Blazin' Squad.

CS7 roadworks at Oval are a pleasure to navigate/weave through cones. Suck it up, drivers.

After finally sorting out a fixed cog last night, and riding round the block a few times when I got home, I rode the 6 miles to work fixed this morning. What can I say? My curiosity got the better of me.
Fucking strange sensation the first time, isn't it? Tried to coast a few times, was quickly corrected by the bike. Clipping into a moving target is harder - I hadn't even considered that.
Didn't break any speed records, but didn't break any bones either.
10/10 Would experience new things again.

@skidlidsid congrats! speed bumps etc... were the big thing for me, took me a few weeks to learn to handle them smoothly.
Today's commute - weather like being back in Glasgow. 7/10, can't get a deep fried pizza here (i've tried).

Wet bum. Otherwise fine. Why are people so surprised that when I rains shorts are the logical choice. Skin dries faster than clothes.

Train, because my legs are full of delayed onset muscle soreness from Yesterday. It wasn't all that bad today though, not too hot, not too squished. Also, I still haven't got a replacement 29.8mm seatpost collar despite Yesterday's extensive walking tour of the bike shops of Hammersmith. Upside: bike knackered and legs knackered on the same day is better than on two different days.

Saw two short fails today.
One guy - Condor lycra over JEANS
T'other guy - navy blue football shorts over SUIT TROUSERS
What?

navy blue football shorts over SUIT TROUSERS
keeps your bum dry innit. Quite clever in a minimalist sense.
-
• #5670
Football shorts aren't known for their waterproofing qualities though...
Haters gonna....

It's more for keeping the dirty water splatter off the arse than keeping dry.
As already mentioned, mudguards are a far better solution for that, but then shorts will also help reduce wear on suit trousers from the saddle.
I can see why some people do it (shorts over suit trousers) if they don't have easy access to shower or changing facilities (especially when visiting customers).

Left my bike in work, train in today sucks.
-
• #5673
Perhaps someone should market a suit-saver shorts. Basically a pair of shorts in a hard wearing material covering the bum and upper thighs, but removable in a quick-release style, sort of like stripper trousers.

Mate, you get a coveted TNRC Sean Kelly Hard Man Award for yesterday's efforts. Well played sir.

Bit colder than I was expecting this morning, lovely ride in though very quiet roads and most lights on green.
