  • Nice head badge, cat seems to not approve :-)

  • re rear rack fitting. If you go to a good builders merchants they sell ready drilled flat metal plates that are used for joining stuff. Will be in the bolts and washers section probably. I used a couple to lower the brake mount on Mrs Sacreds bike. Might save you some time and effort.

  • @853Superfly he does not give a toss, all he cares about is eating and sleeping, like most cats )

@sacredhart i dont have appropriate metal sheet atm so i will probs have to do what you say or i might leave it as it is since my shopping only consists of a ready meal, a bag of crisps, lime for tea and a fizzy drink. basket will be able to hold on.

  • got spiderman under my saddle

  • Sat at home drinking right now so that's ace :-)

I picture spiderman riding the cat and now i want a Lager of Lamont.

Must try the old rack i bin-dived on my beater.

  • +5 points coolness with that Spiderman

  • Off on a tangent time, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=efsXsyXtS78
Lager of Lamot, after watching that i get the urge to dig out Iron Maidens Power Slave :-)

Back on topic as i can post piccys again, took some of the stash tins for scale.
Dug around and found some small bookshelf "L" brackets so i have fitted my rear rack, will see if i can somehow attach a tin so it's hidden/semi hidden within the rack, only want to leave a tube and levers, no other tools in case they are used to nick things off the bike.

  • try piccys again, server error came up.

  • You certainly had an early start. I start drinking lager only at nautical twilight : )

I have got PM from admin saying we are glamorizing drinking and we need to stop mentioning alcohol here. The Larger of Lamot is something special, isn't it. It is so smooth, rich and tasty. I am on 1£ cans atm from my local office, and Kronenbourg does it for me.

Those tins you have dug out are so quaint. Where on the rack do you think they could fit?

  • Cooking you see, had to add red wine to the beef stew, drank the rest so it didn't go off, you know red wine dosen't keep well :)
Never actually tried Lamot, but remembered the adverts.

I reckon with some old inner tube i can make a pocket under neath the rack to tuck a tin in out of the way and not be visable.
The plan is to make some sort of holster to drop a D-lock into on the side of the rack, seen a few racks with design to carry a D-lock and lock-chain carriers mounted between the seat tube and upper seat stays.

  • stuck a few new stickers on the frame

  • look mum no hanas!

I really like the seatpost sticker :)

  • you can get a pack of those stickers in LMNH cafe in Old Street.

  • Did a bit of arts and crafts on my water bottle. Can you believe the wind outside. I saw a couple full grown trees fallen down.

the text about water is from The Bible, Isaiah 12:3.

  • you can get a pack of those stickers in LMNH cafe in Old Street.

    Cool! Will go by soon.

  • my right crank arm pedal thread gave up today. pedal sort of fell off as i cycled. 50% of thread line is gone.

luckily some thread is left. i cleaned up the pedal and screwed it on with force by hammering the wrench. i hope it works.

  • i have finally found a plastic basket and attached it using zipties. now it's a real shopping bicycle.

  • a couple of issues have come up.

    • rear basket is impractical as you always have to worry if anything has fallen out of basket. need front basket fixture.
    • it is impossible to skid stop because the bike is bulky.
    • my fixed pedal does not stay in-thread is completely gone.

i've installed front brake, off a raleigh shopper, so that i can stop quickly.

i don't think i will be able to find right crank arm cheap anywhere to fix the pedal issue

  • .

  • very affordable but it is cotter. this bike has got square taper bb, i am not sure but I think it is ISO

  • .

  • There's some horribly cheap stuff on here that might keep you going for another year. For instance:

    € 5,95

Cheap components would be in keeping with the Dutch town bike style. Most bikes here are held together by a little prayer and a lot of not giving a f#.

  • @keanulooser no worries Kian. anyway they look cotter cause they are solid cranks and old-fashioned design.

@Smolders thank you very much for taking time to post this. at that price, the chainset is a steal and looks to be a good quality.

  • my broken crank arm had 46t on its chainring, which allowed good speed+comfort, so contrary to suggestion i went with 46t cranks. it is on the way.

moreover, i installed a 17t freewheel for extra comfort.

after drilling a hole and scraping off some metal, installed a rear brake for more stopping power. used a front light holder to secure the brake cable on the frame. it feels great being able to drill, cut, scrape the frame cause it was cheap.

plus some stickers made out of industrial duck tape.

would love to stumble upon a discarded metal wire basket somewhere, someday.
