  • Do you really need a tv connection? I'd be tempted to go with wi-fi and a little media center pc (maybe a roku) and just use iplayer and the like

  • You can probably find a miniature cable which isn't too tricky to fit

  • the loft is coming along nicely

  • Are you keeping that chimney then? And what's the metal bracket supporting?

  • there are two chimneys in the property, the bracket is supporting the bit remaining at the top of the left chimney in the loft as its been removed from the bottom up.

  • that gallows bracket isnt installed as per the building regs - it should have concerete packed around it.

  • That's exactly how ours was done, ready to plop onto our heads in the night.

  • Appropriate name is appropriate.

  • building regs is coming round soon. the builder said 'don't worry, i'll deal with him'. i'm not sure whats going to happen....

  • I'd be very mindful of any new, and unexpected, section of brickwork.

  • Booked! Thanks! Had an awkward moment where he was like "Are you xxx's friend? He said someone would call today" and I was like "Uhhh I might be, I don't know his real name"

Oh the perils of the internet...

Ha! no that wasn't me who called.

  • Our strategy was to lever up to the max in the knowledge that our incomes would grow into the mortgage. The financing we got was so cheap that it seemed pointless to live in a smaller place than we had to.

  • That place is tops! reminds me of my nans house ! some of the furniture in there is nice too!

  • @princeperch

do you have any pics of that kitchen you got for 80% off? what about that chimney you had removed?

  • That link isn't working for me, got a new one?

Also, does anyone have a link for a reliable and quality plastered who may be available at quite short notice?

We've been let down by ours at short notice and want to get someone in quick so the rest of the job doesn't get held up too much. We're losing faith in our builder and his contacts, which is a shame as we're quite close to finishing - but I think that is just making it worse.

  • We had a Polski lad called Andre who was really really excellent.

All the decorators we got quotes from after our work remarked on the top plaster work.

    PM for deets.

  • the kitchen is finished, just need the decorating and lighting to be finished then i'll pop some pics up. we arent dead yet from the chimney.

speaking of which did your builder check if the otherside had retained their chimney or not? if he didnt check you might have a problem when building control come over, you are only meant to use gallows brackets in specific circumstances

also, you did put that you were going to remove the chimney on your party wall notice didnt you?

  • Any idea what the damage would be for something like a typical Victorian sitting room? I had mine down recently, but it was falling apart and had curved corners which are tricky work. That was circa £800 for a few days work. Very clean job though, and took the radiators off, etc.

  • I'm hemorrhaging money (on the spreadsheet)

    Solicitor
    Conveyancing
    Lenders arrangement fee
    Mortgage Account Fee
    Land registry
    Searches
    Valuation fee

What else am I to be surprised with?
Am I doubling up on something above? Is one thing the same as another?

  • how about this http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-51363593.html ?
no idea of the lease/freehold but 3 bedder in a great location, yes pricey but these been going for £650K+ at the moment.

  • very close to where I live. nice and quiet. but needs about 35k give or take spending on it to make it nice...
