If I were to see that being ridden around town I would have to remind myself to close my mouth.

Hi guys, having trouble getting the front mech cable through, there seems to be a kink in the inner cable tube which is stopping the cable from going round the BB. I have tried guide wires and trying to ease the cable with no luck somewhat pissed off with it at the mo.

^Shit - that's the worst nightmare :(
Not sure if the thing is pull through-able (when I gave mine a tug it wasn't budging (oooh err etc)) and/or how similar the liner is to the Nokon liner.
-
• #37
Yeah its not budging, I will take it to work get it X-rayed to make sure the inner is not blocked by broken cable strands. Worst case is I run it as a SS or single chain ring pretty pissed though.

...I will take it to work get it X-rayed...
Ha! Perks of the job.

That is definitely something you don't hear often.
-
• #40
Yeah not a perk I've ever intended using though.

Have you considered trying some more modern drops - if you could get something with less reach/shallower drops they might let you extend the stem a bit more? (and would give a nicer bar-hood transition)
Also I'm pretty sure those cable stops on the brakes are in upsidedown?
-
• #43
^^ young gun feel free to make an offer on the frame, the brake cable stops are upside-down as it stops me from loosing the adjusters until I can fit the brakes.

Honestly wouldn't know where to start with an offer. Have an idea of what you are looking for?

• #45
Being X rayed tonight, looking like a full swap to campag with a single ring now and hoping to get it ready for The London Classic.

It has the all clear no blockage just a tight/kink in the internal guide so still a pain so will have to work out a way around this, any suggestions?

Not ideal, but maybe put enough of an artificial bend on the end of the the wire so it guides itself? Take a set of needlenose pliers and just bend the end ever so slightly?
-
• #48
Could you attach a magnet to your guide wires and use another magnet to guide them through the bend?
Basically a make-shift version of the Park Tool IR1

Yeah will try some fishing nylon at some point. But at least it's not blocked which means it should be do-able

threading gear cables through my levers drove me insane, but after more than an hour it happened. However, my friend with 10 speed ultegra and the same problem managed to damage the lever internals, and was kindly sent a replacement by whoever he bought it from...
no specific advice, but interested to see an x-ray of a lever!
Hi, been busy with other projects but SPRING!!!!!(kinda) its here so figured get this bike finished. Been collecting parts over winter so started getting it together. I am still waiting on the DA brifters to finish and hoping to use it for the London Classic in a couple of weeks time. So some pics, I decided not to go down the SS route for this bike but still considering a single chain-ring, as I love the shape of the bike. The front mech does seem to spoil the look but for the moment, Dura-Ace Groupset and Mavic SSC Carbone wheels seemed to be the way to go. Please note the gold Ti skewers and FSA rings are not going to feature on the finished bike.
I was going to run this with downtube shifters but most of my Lo Pro,s have this cog swapping system and it can be a pain. This bike was a cross between aesthetics and being user friendly as I intend to use it regularly.
