  • I think Cancellara is still favorite for Flanders and Roubaix.

It is difficult for Cancellara to win MSR. It is very hard for him to drop everyone with an attack on the Poggio and runs the risk of taking someone to the line (Gerrans in 2011), but if he sits in he doesn't have much chance of winning the sprint (the last three editions). I wouldn't read too much into him missing the podium.

  • Fab's best chance would have been to have been in the position to follow Oss's attack like Geraint. Had the three of them got away hypothetically it may have stuck. He didn't attack there or the Poggio, he followed, so either he lacked ambition or genuinely believed he had a chance in sprint with whatever selection remained.

Btw when I say lacked ambition I meant he was using it for preperation for the cobbles rather than an all or nothing tilt for the win. Opportunistic riding, because MSR is a bit of a lottery.
