It's fun haha, makes me want a Brooklyn / Pomp for stuff like that!

It's been a long time, but I remember riding from one of the open areas on the west side of the heath, down a hill into the a larger section of woodland and there being a bomb-hole just near the end of the trail.

This was about a decade ago though. Not sure how much bike riding is frowned upon there these days :-/

Yeah same! I'm eventually going to get some new forks for the Focale (not enough clearance on the current ones) and chuck some knobblies and a really spinny gear on it for things like that

^^ There are still a few berms/banks etc near the Prison side. There's often a few young un's hanging around there with BMX's. There is also a massive bomb hole on the other side. Nearly killed myself running up it a few months ago.

Trail running is the new fixed wheel.

I used to ride the bomb hole over there and the Kamikaze on the other side opposite Zak's! Halcyon days....

Had it for about a week. I think it's my favourite of all the bikes I've owned to date.

I reckon that new roadie needs some of this....

Wasn't particularly expensive, but I was VERY patient foraging the parts.
-
• #642
Looking good! Do you by any chance want a cheap rack for it?
-
• #643
My lack of patience is exactlt why I don't own something like this
-
• #644
really not a fan of racks, in any way, shape or form. Got some soft frame luggage for any long adventures that call. thanks for the offer though.

Anyone got a DIY recipe for good chain cleaning stuff? I would buy some proper stuff but i don't have any money to spare at the moment. I am limited to household supplies
-
• #646
Unless it's MTB dirty, use baby wipes and run the chain though them and then lube it. They also work well for wiping the drive train. I'm guessing you won't have any of these at homes but they are only a pound a packet in Tescos.

I haven't cleaned it since december and it's pretty dirty, i tried to clean most of it and i've done an alright job with soapy water so far. I plan to replace the chain soon enough.
Need to sort the ghastly length of the cables and the protective part, far too long and ugly

Best way I've found is boil the chain in an old pan in very concentrated fairy liquid solution, then give it a good scrub and whack it back in the pan dry to boil off all the excess water

KMC quicklink and drop the chain in a jar full of white spirit. Shake, let settle, repeat. Run it through a rag and pop it back on and lube.

Orange juice, Cocacola, lemon juice, fairy liquid, swarfega (if that's a household item - is for muckymits me). Any of these, or various solutions thereof with water work to a certain degree. If you wipedown regularly with fairy liquid and water then you'll never get to a point where you need anything stronger.
If you're past that stage, then buy some of this: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Muc-Off-Bio-Degreaser-500-ml/dp/B001MQ01JQ One tin lasts for ages and costs less than 2 pints and A LOT less than a new 10sp chain. Otherwise - Roys and QD both have car bits and bobs aisles, where you'll find some kind of citrus degreaser fairly cheap.
Rode the Genesis 'hors piste' on a particularly soggy day a few months back, was so much fun sliding about on a road bike
