  • We think my mum has a Maine Coon. Her friend found it in her garden in Winchester with barely any weight. It had clearly been on its own for some time and starvation had a firm grip. She called my mum who took it up to her place and nursed it back to health. It's the grumpiest fucker in the world. It's also enormous, incredibly furry, very vocal and full of character. Lethal claws. During the storms a few weeks back it disappeared. Fearing the worst she found it two days later 70ft up a nearby tree. Fire & rescue said it was too late in the day to help so it spent a third night up there until a tree surgeon came the next morning.

  • Couldn't say but she has that very determined look in her eyes as if she wants to be treated like a Princess. Her eyes seem to say, "I hope I'm going somewhere where I get the whole corner of the sofa" .

  • whole corner? more like whole sofa!

mine is treated like a princess and she doesn't complain much.. but you can see the satisfaction in her eyes when taking her from the sofa to the bedroom at night. totally worthit :)

  • Great cat CYOA

  • Well we have a chair that we don't use in the living room, which probably means she'll have the whole sofa and we'll be sharing the chair!!

  • Ha, that's a nice story.. and the cat / that photo of the cat / the expression is awesome!

Am still astounded what kinds of cats you have in the UK (here in Germany it's pretty much varieties in colour of the classic german "Hauskatze" Felis silvestris catus for the most part) - you seem to have more different breeds, and definately more of the huge and grumpy kind!

  • if you wants to maintain ownership of your sofa, make sure either yourself or your bags are always on it. Always! My cat took ownership of my leather chair when I had a moment of carelessness and forgot to always stick something on it. Now it's hers.

  • My sister has a pair of Bengals, unbelievable climbers, it's not unknown for them to open a door and then perch on top. Hers like to empty cupboards too, hide her husbands watch (they pick it up and hide it under a bed in the spare room), get in the shower with you etc etc.
Yours looks very regal, good luck.

  • Would anyone be willing to cat sit for last 2 weeks of April? Will be away on holiday?

I've found the best way to keep my cat in check with the space he can have is to give him his own blanket or throw to sleep on. He gets half of my two-seater sofa, but when clients or visitors come, and I need the whole sofa, I move the throw to the spare chair (or even on the floor) and he takes that.
He has another blanket in the bottom of the wardrobe where he hides when he thinks the world is ending (the dustmen turning up), which is actually quite handy because in an emergency I can pull out the blanket with him on it.
And finally, most recently, I've given him his own blanket on top of my duvet because it seems he is allergic to the new washing powder I've been using. I've noticed that when I move the blanket to the side or the bottom of the bed he will choose that, because it has his smell, rather than sleep directly on the duvet. It's quite cute these days; I don't have to pick him up and take him to the bedroom, when I go to bed he is often already asleep on his blanket on top of the bed.

  • Took my cat to the vet a month or so ago. Checked her ears and said she had ear mites. He gave me stronghold and I used that twice. She still has problems with her ears. I think it itches. She constantly scratches her right ear. Sometimes when scratching some stuff comes out but it doesn't look like ear mites at all. It looks like ear wax (even the structure) and I don't see anything special with a good magnifier. I tried special anti ear wax stuff for cats, but that doesn't seem to work either. It's getting a bit less, but it doesn't go away. Any tips or should I go to the vet again? The only good vet here is really expensive.

  • Which is why Patch has her own dedicated leather chair next to the sofa. She only ever sleeps there... except for in the morning when she would sleep on my chair in the bedroom awaits for me to wake up.

She also likes napping on mg duvet every now and again... or when I need to clean the living room in which case I would pick her up and put her on my bed, and she would just stay there.

I have to say I am Gladly she seems happy with whatever blanket I give her, even after they have been washed...

  • Sounds like the Stronghold hasn't killed all the mites and they're still causing her some hassle - or she's picked them up from a pal after the previous infection was expunged. You can try another Stronghold treatment - the general recommendation seems to be to treat once monthly, so it might be time for another dose anyway.

If that doesn't work, then it's back to the vet with her.

  • She can't pick them up from a pal. She has been indoor her whole life (excluding vet trips). I'll buy another stronghold batch and if that doesn't work, take her to the vet again. Thanks :)

  • We had to clean the ears of both our cats every day for a week or two when we got them, which was 'interesting'. Few drops of cat-friendly cleaning fluid in the ear (which turned out to be anti-mite too), massaged in for a minute or so, followed by Cottonwool pads torn in half twiddled around a bit. Brought out some absolute muck and required gloves and cat/towel wrapping at first!
Clive loves an ear massage now and it sends him straight to sleep...
