• Oh! that's such a shame.
Back when I was a "lfgss newb" South beers had summer bbq's and apple pie bake offs and bike race viewing upstairs and jerk chicken comps (not a euph) bike stacks and weddings and everything.
    So sad...

Well, some people seem to think that the "spirit of the forum" was chasing newbs away and reserving drinks for privileged OGs. The death of most of the points-of-the-compass beer nights is something they celebrate. Funny, because I thought "Compass beer rides " was "spirit of the forum". There you go.

  • Souths when I started going to drinks felt like a pretty closed shop. Pretty much as Bruce describes, bunch of OG's who knew each other far too well to bother with any one they didn't know. Don't think it was on purpose, it's hard work talking to people you've never met before, every week for years... And most of the people at souths just wanted a quiet drink with thier mates.

I never got that at wests though. T4, Mick, Dov, Max, Murts diable, Oliver, were like the lfgss welcoming committee... Also the fact there was always other newbs there in droves probably helped.
