• So with the passing of my old man, I've inherited a bunch of vinyl, but as a result of moving house a few time and break-up I was left without a decent setup. Decided to get something period correct for listening to his old stuff and with some decent luck I ended up with a nicotine stained (very appropriate) Pioneer SA-7500 for £10, a pair of Scandyna A-30's in great shape for £15 and a Pioneer PL-560 for free. The PL-560 is missing a cartridge and with the rather modest spend so far, I thought I might splash a bit of the inheritance on a good one. Any recommandations? I was looking at a Shure M97xE at a really good price earlier. Anything else I should consider?

  • Yeah, might look into that one as well. Just got a picture of the PL-560 from my sister and it's missing the headshell as well, so I'll start my shopping with one of those...

  • So I've ended up with an Ortofon 2M Red. Apparently we get dealer prices on Ortofon stuff at work and when I asked our production manager for the price, he just ordered one for me... So now I'm just waiting for the Pioneer PL-560 and an original headshell I got for £1 on eBay. I've cleaned and polished the knobs (ohhhh) on the amp, but the front needs a clean as well. So far I've just been playing FLACs through my laptop, but I'm quite impressed by the setup.
