Another nice ride is along the cycle path to Sluis, which is partly a really odd town, over the border in Holland. The centre is really tacky, but has some nice bits around the edges. You may be there in time to see the Storks which nest on large platforms on poles around the town (to stop them nesting on the roof tops). You might see them in the fields on your way.
There are some bars on the way too. You follow the canals most of the way and you may find some really poignant memorials to the many small battles that were fought here in 2nd world war, the canal was a major barrier to the german advance, and the many bridge crossing were hard fought.
The old part of Bruges is fascinating, but it only takes a short while to see it all all, and the remainder isn't very distinctive, but it is pretty expensive. Go out to the edge of town to eat!
