Surely if the 58c is for pre-cooking a chicken which is then going to be deep-fried, it's going to be alright?

Something what my missus made for my grandma's 85th birthday party today:
Now to drive very carefully to Essex...

^ Nice... Your front room also looks awesome...
Mrs TS and I are in Rome... Just had one of the best lunches of my life in a little family run place near our AirBnB in Prati...
Straccetti to start, saltimbocca with a couple of side dishes for main and pana cotta with caramel to finish... The flavours were incredible! Included 50cl of wine, bread, water, coffee and brandy and it was only €60 for the both of us including a small tip... Who said you can't eat well and on the cheap in Rome?!?
Deffo going back... Exceptional!

She'd also baked stars into the cake mix so when cut, it looked like this:

Talk to me about Bircher Museli.
Do you go there?
This recipe looks pretty good: http://mylittlegourmet.com/breakfast/bircher-muesli/
But aint nobody got time for grating apples every morning.
Also, wondering if I could just make up a big batch the basic soaked oat/youghurt mix for the week.
Thoughts? -

Yeah we have something similar but don't bother to soak the oats at all. Just whack 'em in a bowl with milk and yoghurt. Add whatever you like fruit/nut wise and off you go.

Wanted to celebrate my bday dinner properly so went to Billingsgate Saturday morning (cycling there at 4.30 was really unique, few drunk people still around in Shoreditch, and the CS3 all for myself), got loaaads of seafood, I could barely fit one more prawn in my backpack on the way back. Anyway this is what came out:
- Haddock and mango ceviche
- Salmon and red onion ceviche
- Salmon and courgette quiche
- Clams and cherry tomatoes bruschette
- Prawns skewers
- Raw courgette, strawberry and prawns salad with basil dressing
- Lettuce canape with leek pure and seared tuna
To accomodate some vegetarian guests I also added:
- Some mixed herbs polenta chips and homemade guacamole
- Butternut squash, courgette, carrot and red onion quiche
- Cherry tomatoes, capers and shallots bruschette.
The whole thing with 15 bottles of white, 1 of champagne and 1 of homemade limoncello just to seal the whole night properly.
Apologies for not taking any picture of the dishes, been swamped cooking the whole day sat. All very rewarding tho! Recipes available upon request ;)

Love a bircher. Would do a max couple of days before. A week and it gets a bit blurrrrrgh.
Do the juice bit first, then then dairy bit on the morning/day...
Grating apples is quick, surely!Hm, might make some right now actually. My Weck jars are perfect for dis.

Got the day off on Wednesday for my gf's birthday. We're thinking of doing a lunch set menu at one of the posh places to save money on her birthday meal, rather than going somewhere reasonably good for full price at dinner, or spending loads on a really good place.
Although it's pretty late in the day to be looking, I've managed to findd a table at Sketch, Alain Ducasse, Hibiscus, and arbutus.
Thoughts? Preferably within the next hour so I don't lose any of those options.

The Romans really are spoilt when it comes to food, just had a delicious picnic dinner after doing the Vatican this morning... Porchetta, arranchini and some bits and bobs from the deli counter all washed down with a delicious €2 white wine... Would bang again...
Going back to our local trattoria for the scollopini tonight...

Joe, my Rome recommendations if you haz time. Pizza place really is boss. And I've eaten a lotta pizzas.
Ai Marmi Pizzeria, Viale di Trastevere, 53/57
Authentic roman pizza, open kitchen, amazing spectacle, also try the 'suppli' as starter – fried rice balls with melty cheese insideDa Augosto, Piazza Dè Renzi, 15
Good basic trattoria, go for something like rabbit, house wine, sunshine, perfect lunch venuePerilli, Via Marmorata, 39
Another good traditional trattoria, very popular with ItaliansEataly, Piazzale XII Ottobre 1492
Quite cool cross between Waitrose and a posh food market -

Hibiscus - best set lunch in London.
Though I've only been to Sketch and Arbutus of the others and neither of those for lunch

I'm allergic to spending money so anything much more than €30 per head and I'm in a panic... Will check all those you and @tommmmmmm mentioned tho'... Off out to see some Roman ruins now... I miss the Spanish menú del día, lunch for €10 is pretty hard to beat in Europe....

Sadly Hibiscus got vetoed due to limited non-meat selection. I will get there one day!
I've booked Alain Ducasse, if only for the 3 stars.

I do bircher sometimes, and make a massive tupperware of it. if you do it Sunday afternoon with fresh (i.e., relatively newly opened and with a long way til use by date) milk and yoghurt, lasts til Friday no probs.
I do oats + cinnamon + grated apple + milk + yoghurt in advance then whatever nuts, seeds and dry druit etc i've got kicking about on the day. Or do the fruit in advance too, it's nice when it's soaked in some yoghurt and whatnot.

I could barely fit one more prawn in my backpack
Euph?
Well, that didn't escalate quickly.
Nicely.
