Frame not straight?

Posted on
  • Hello, I bought this single/ fixed speed off a friend of a friend recently and I've found out that if I'm looking from behind the back wheel looks way closer to the left side of the bike. Looking with the bike upside down the wheel looks pretty much in the middle of the chain stays. Is the frame bent? Some photos to clarify

  • Forgot to say, I've tried to pull the bolt of the chain side and push the opposite but if I do that the wheel will touch the frame in the right chain stay

  • You could try flipping the wheel over to see if it's the wheel or the frame?
If you flip it and it still looks the same then it more likely to be the frame but it switches sides it's more likely to be the wheel.
Otherwise there's a really good thread on the ctc forum where a chap details using string to determine if a frame is straight. I'll try and find the link on ctc and post it here.
    Good luck

  • Scroll down on this thread there's some info.

  • I did flip the wheel and unfortunately looks the same, closer to the left side so it looks like it's the frame. I don't know very much about mechanics, is it possible/money worthy to make it straight? If so, where?

If been crazy expensive, how badly is to ride the bike as it is?

  • I'm definitely no expert in this! I'm guessing it's steel from the look of your rear brake bridge then should be easily tweaked.
sheldon's method, i don't think it's too difficult but you'd need to be confident in measuring it using the string method.

If you don't fancy this then you'll need to swing buy an LBS ask them for a quote OR ride it as is.
    Where are you based roughly?
SW London, there's Brixton bikes more central there's Bikefix in Lambs Conduit St, WC1N.

    Good luck
I think there's quite a few courier bike (antithesis of Evans) type shops around Clerkenwell/Hoxton which I reckon would do this type of thing quickly and easily but I don't personally know any of them sorry.
