  • Got a technical question:

I've picked up a full carbon Si fork (originally from a Six13 I think) for my CAAD5. It's one of the ones fitted with a star nut and uses Cannondale's own sleeve/top cap assembly. Cannondale's tech document says that the fork can only have a max stack height of 40mm and you shouldn't have any spacers above the stem (Which seems odd because most other manufacturers say you need at least 5mm of spacers between the stem and top cap??), however the steerer is a bit too long to meet both these requirements.

How do I go about driving the star nut to the appropriate depth once I've cut the steerer down? The Parktools TNS-1 tool only drives the star nut to 15mm, and I doubt any bike shops have Cannondale's own star nut tool to get it to 40mm down the steerer as required.

Alternatively, can I just use the screwdriver/hammer method to drive the star nut further down the steerer and use a normal expander plug instead?

    Thanks!
