Bugger! Sorry to hear that.
That's why you go to a shop and pay shop prices: so that things are done right and if not, there is someone else to blame.
No question: new tyre and pad.
TBH I would expect something by way of goodwill from them too: badly wrapped bars, for example, are one thing but brakes are quite another...

Prior to that how was the ride?

• #204
Thanks, I thought so.
I'm sure they'll come good just a shame I have to wait until the boss is back to sort it out.It rides more like steel than Aluminium but rides nicely. Not as stiff as I was hoping for but it is ancient carbon after all (known for being noodley).
After taking the KG121 home, I went out on the AL264 to Richmond Park for lunch with the yummy mummy crowd.. I don't normally head to RP and on the odd occasion I do, It's on the weekend.
I was surprised by how quiet it was!I've now become conscious that I'm committing the Ergonova faux pas on all of my bikes.... Need to address this.

yeah, there's a reason why you pay premium for a shop to do mechanical work

Would think unwrap bar tape, put levers into 175 degrees (not 185 like now). Go for a ride. Repeat. Wrap bar tape when happy.

Bars and saddle look much better.
Do you know when the 'boss' is getting back?

Shitty work with the headset, no doubt about that... I'm a very picky guy with tool marks so I tighten the headset nuts myself with a thick piece of cloth or an old and thick MTB tube underneath the tool.
CK headset parts are super expensive so demand a new set from the store! -

levers need to move up the bars a bit. You can just unwrap the tape half way to do it, lizardskin should be find to reuse. Looks like the saddle nose needs to come down a touch but the bike is already looking much better.

• #212
hard to tell but from here levers need tilting up slightly and saddle bringing down at the noes.
have you a brick wall near by you can use as a guide?

Unlucky man. I hope the shop does the right thing without making a fuss.
Just needee to say that that blue black combo in the picture looks so tasty. -
• #214
Which bike shop is this?
I love the build but that stem is raaaank man.
-
• #215
I've removed all reference of their name from the thread as they've done good work for me in the past and hoping they'll do the right thing but not sure naming and shaming will do much.

What are you plans for the now-spare ellipse? And, related, what is the shortest distance it can get away with, frame–rails...

I hope the shop has offered some recourse. That is really shoddy work there and you're well within your rights to ask for a new top section assembly for the marking to your headset, a new tyre, brake pads and if your rim is marked another of those too.
Hope you get it resolved.
Then, never take it back there.

You really couldn't make this shit up.
I've got the day off as I'm heading back to NZ to see my terminally ill mum. I haven't been sleeping much. Riding down about to head into the New Cross one way bit to take the bike back to the shop when a large lorry stopped suddenly leaving me crashing into the back of it then hitting the deck ripping bar tape, busted lip, scratched rear derailleur scratched saddle etc. Truck took off as I guess having a cyclist crash into your rear doesn't even register. Stood dazed on side of road. Rode to bike shop. Left bike there, no money for Train so am typing this from the back of an Uber on the way home to look in the mirror. I want to cry. Bike shop is getting new tyre, pads and top assembly of headset.

Oh FFS!
Don't know what else to say...

• #220
Yikes. Hope you're alright 7VEN. Keep your mum in mind, forget the bike.
-
• #221
7VEN, don't worry about the bike. If you need help doing mechanics when you're back then let me know.

Cheers everyone. I'll hit you up in a few weeks when I'm back Sumo.
I'm fairly numb from the last few days.
Busted lip on both the outside and inside, big egg sized bruise on chin and sore jaw. -

Buy cheap then try and descend a steep mountain, buy twice. I managed to distort the braking track on the front rim on my AL264 descending Hautacam this summer in 30 deg temps .
No more far sports rims for me.
My own stupid fault for taking Carbon rims to the mountains. This will be retired to flat riding from now on.
Any suggestions for replacement?

They look great but going to have to save a bit first!
Its the mechanic's job to ensure the bike is safe before it leaves the shop, not yours. The shop is liable. A reputable shop ought not to quibble, even if there is some doubt. In this case, they built the bike so theres no room for doubt.
