  • Mine go at the crotch because of my massive fucking equipment.

  • I have a pair of Carhartts that have done this.

  • Just seen Gap have started doing selvedge. Anyone tried? Look decent for the price.

  • They've been doing them on and off for years, they'll be as good as the Uniqlos so worth a punt if the price is right...

  • Saw some of the gap ones at the weekend, looked alright for the money, managed to score myself some Ben Sherman Japanese selvedge for £20 instead!

  • Got a pair of the GAP ones (mainly because I was shocked by fitting into a 36" slim fit). £65 and seemed really nice, much nicer than any jeans I had ever bought (which isn't saying a lot really). Until i read that they shrink after the first wash and you should wear them as much as possible.

Wore them until I could wear them no longer, washed them and they still fit fine.

  • i have some ben sherman selvedge and they are the best quality i have ever seen - sadly too small for me but none the less incredible weight and detail and quality of stitching is top notch. So good i have them in my wardrobe hoping that one day my legs will shrink or i will be able to pull off cropped jeans without looking a c*nt

  • These are a bit of a weird cut, quite a high rise with some taper below the knee but for £20 I can't complain. The fabric however is a lovely 13oz jap selvedge, just gotta break them in now

  • Gap even did selvedge denim for babys a really long time ago; my niece who is now 18 was rocking a pair with some tiny NB 576 as a toddler.

  • Does anyone have some advice or experience of replacing the front pockets on jeans?

My favourite pair are wearing nicely but the pockets have worn through. I'd like to keep them going if possible.

    Thank you!

  • Do you mean the insides? Yup you can get those fixed at a good dry cleaners

  • Yeah it's dead easy even with basic sewing skills.

Turn jeans inside out, cut out pockets (the normal fabric bit, not the jeans bit) trace on new fabric, stitch together, sew back on. Keep in mind that a thinner but still durable fabric is best, anything too sturdy might get uncomfortable.

  • Just got my first pair of Gustin's in the mail. They fit like a glove and material feels great, but putting them on for the first time was nerve racking.

  • May I advise you to steer clear of such activities as rock climbing, white water rafting and extreme knitting. You may find the wracking of your nerves too much to handle.

  • I dunno Mashton. New denim wearing is pretty out there.

  • I don't like the shininess you get from not washing. I've started washing a couple of pairs of mine every now and to see how they shrink and fade.

  • Yes, the fabric is developing holes and coming away where they're stitched to the jeans.

Thanks for the replies - I'm a lot happier now I know it's an easy fix!

  • Heh, having done plenty of bouldering, skating and snowboarding I don't mind taking physical risks. The risk of wasting money and resources just irks me to no end. If the pants don't fit whatcha gonna do?

  • (almost)

  • I work at jack wills and we do slim selvedge jeans for £90 but I just got a pair for my dad for £35. They look decent to be fair.

  • Well they're not intended to be but my mum told me she got him some nice jeans recently from matalan so I knew he needed some help.

  • Jack Wills selvedge - do they fall right over the back of your loafers creating that really cool ripped up hem?

  • I work at jack wills

    My sympathies.

  • Haha selvedge doesn't fray apparently.
    I'm not a brand ambassador, it's just a part time job :P
