• Yesterday's journey proved that the electric handbrake / auto hold thing on the Golf is shit. The one thing the auto hold is supposed to do - I.e. Not release the handbrake until the car has forward motion - doesn't fucking work on even gentle uphill gradients. It just releases when you give it some gas and the fucking car rolls back.

    The interior designers get all grumpy because they have to accommodate a handbrake lever somewhere, and it gets in the way of all their smooth surfaces. Personally I'm with you - give me a handbrake lever any day, and screw the people designing the interior of the car. It's also easier to route electric cables rather than mechanical Bowden cables, but I've never heard anyone claim that's the overriding reason for using electric handbrakes.
