  • @Thuekr Histo in M? Interesting, I'm basically the same height as you and quite leggy.

I'd be using drops. What traditional track size do you ride?

  • I ride rather extreem setups geometry wise/anti-bike-fit, this is one of the latest (54 planetx)

  • What's the opinion on the new steel work bike? Likely to make it over here, may dorrar, better alternatives? I've commuted on my Look 464 for the last 4 years, but this year have used my SSMTB over winter and big tyres and front rack have got me less enthusiastic about the switch back to the Look. Have been considering consolidating to a Nature Boy (probably Disc), but the Mash on 35c with a front rack and drops could be the ticket.

  • @Sanddancer I really want one of those mash steel work frames. they look amazing and very well thought.

  • They should be coming over here, yeah but if not you'll have no problem getting one sent.

I think they're super rad, the final prototype looks sweet and I'm sure the production ones will be finished just as nicely.

  • I like the idea and the versatility is well thought out. I couldn't see myself spending $875 on just the frame tho

  • $875US is just shy of £600. If I was young, free and single I'd be all over that.

  • Isn't it basically an all city big block with canti mounts?

  • In the same way a vigorelli is basically a pre cursa yeah...

  • So a Nature boy

  • you can get custom frames for less (regarding steel mash)

  • Nobody buys a Mash thinking they are getting good value for money.

  • Planet X purchases exempt^

  • Might help people sizing up their Histos (st angle effect on reach)

  • Got this silver-emu-alpine-ghillie-thing and whacked some wheels on it - gonna take some months before it's finished; making my mind up, building wheels etc.

  • That looks nice n tight!

How do the Mash and Parralax ride? I've always had a soft spot for them but love the feel of a steel track bike too much to take the leap

  • Mash Vigorelli, Bolt, Histogram, Histogram 2014, Histogram 2015, Parallax all have different geometry (aka. different ride qualities) - The Parallax resembles old school track steel the most in terms of vigilant angles and super short rake.

  • Parallax is quick and responsive

  • Parallax is quick and responsive depending on how much ale you drink

  • I've got a histogram '14 frameset which I'm getting ready to build up. I am going for archetypes to on-one M2k hubs but I'm not sure about the rest really, the idea is it's a track training bike and generalised hipster-ish ride. Can't decide between Omniums or Miche Primato cranks. Thoughts? I'd also like to keep it aggressive with a low stack height but I have pretty poor back flexibility (but I'm working on it) so looking for some nice but shallow track drops. Any suggestions? Also thinking Thomson or maybe deda stem to keep the stem angle as close to level as possible.

As you can see I'm doing some slight crowdsourcing here...

  • I've got a bit of a hatred for miche stuff and not had great experience with the cranks but at the same time it seems like everyone puts omniums on their mash, between the two they are definitely the better crank but sugino 75s or DA could be cool.

Thomson is sort of the same, so common on mashes but for good reason I guess as they make good parts, there's some deda, zipp and fsa stuff worth looking at too.

These are just opinions obviously, hope you enjoy your new frame!

  • I'm with @IR

I had Miche Primato cranks on my Vig for a while and they were shit. In my experience Miche stuff seems to break pretty easily. I've been running Omniums on there for the past year or so with no issues. I've replaced the BB a few times as external BB's seem to die quicker than square taper, but they're also crazy cheap so I don't mind.
