  • MacBook pro for sure. So much more powerful, better screen, and only a tiny bit bigger.

  • Thanks! And should I be upgrading to i7 and bulking up the memory?

  • Thanks for the info, I'll check that out.

    I'm trialling Klok2 for now...

    Cheers.

  • The i7 maybe but definitely max ram. Good choice of by the way.

  • Ok.

It comes in around £1150 which was more than I had intended to spend but whatevs

  • @Tenderloin Defo ram. i7 if you can but doesn't really matter.
You have any friends in education? Edu discount is always a winner...

  • I'll either get it in HK or ask my brother to buy it.

    Edu discount is 15%?

  • Depends on what you get, it's between about 11%-15%

  • Actually I think my rMBP 15 only has 8gb or ram and it's fine for everything I do, creative suite, fcp, gaming.

Maybe grab a stock 13 from an airport and save loads?

  • Base model should be around £900 from an airport once the new models gave propagated?

  • Balls... ParcelFarce want a receipt, problem is I got my Thunderbolt through a mate's sister who was working for them... So no receipt... Have sent her an email anyway...

  • I have a 13" retina with upgraded everything from sept last year, best thing ive ever owned

  • just make one, you're a designer!

  • That's my last resort... ;)

  • ParcelFarce suck balls. Are they the ones that smashed the screen?

  • Yup, I double boxed it too... Did a right number on it...

  • Bastardos. Hope you get it sorted.

  • 8GB right now is fine, but will it be enough for the next five years?

I don't think you can upgrade the RAM on the MB nowadays.

  • I hear what you are saying Ed but I actually think it will be. You'd need more for editing 4k, high end gaming and maybe large format print work but I don't think the OP ever intends to do that regularly, and neither do I.
It is really annoying ram is not upgradable.

  • If you can afford it, just pump in as much RAM as you can. When the upgrade option is taken away, then you've got to do a bit of future proofing.

  • Trying to connect my 13" retina to an iMac - I'd like to use the iMac as a larger screen for the laptop (the iMac is on loan while I find a replacement screen).
I've tried using a Mini display port cable and switching the display by using combinations of the Command/Function/F2 but nothing seems to work.
    What am I doing wrong?

  • I don't think the OP ever intends to do that regularly.

I agree, neither do I, however it still best to max out the RAM when you can as there's no option to upgrade them in future, making the laptop less of a good value.

  • If I'm choosing out of upgrading the processor or RAM which would it be?

  • Depending on how old the imac is it just won't work....from about 2012, maybe a tad earlier, they won't accept video in.

  • If you can do both, go for it, otherwise RAM.
