  • Bike listed elswhere...many thanks for allowing listing.

  • Fabulous looking bike. Import duties and postage would be a real killer to bring into the UK.

    GLWS

  • humming ....Letting the days go by...letting the water underground...after the money's all gone...once in a lifetime...

Shipping was free on there too.
"Price 1995 GBP FREE SHIPPING TRACE AND TRACK"

    humming again I'm a... I'm a...I'm a.... I'm a dreeeeeamer....
racks work-numbed brain for a song about timewasters
    ... Turin Breaks?

  • shipping...$275 Aussie dollars....weak $$ means about 135 GBP......I dont think they would hit an old steel bike marked as 100 gbp for anything? :)

  • Good effort!!!... Talking heads once in a lifetime......also, keep working at it...you'll get your break :)

  • He did a good work, you didn't. Due diligence before posting an Ad means you should read the rules of this forum.
In there it's stated you can't sell here WHILE selling anywhere else.

  • am looking for a commuter bike but the 24ct gold inner ring might be a problem when locking up .

  • As a matter of fact, I did delete that listing on advice from someone on this forum before posting here.....for some reason, the pictures had been deleted, but the text remained. Self sanctifying churlish comments are probably not the most welcoming and effective form of addressing NEW members to any forum, and is probably why people are averse to trying to sell via these methods.......A fellow cyclist offering a very unique bike up to other enthusiasts, shouldn't be made to feel as though they've committed a heinous crime because of a tech error.......a more helpful and proactive friendly approach wouldn't go amiss......I tend to apply due diligence to my work in the medical field, I think the use of such a term in relation to a posting for selling a bike is a touch over the top.

  • Gios 78...no worries I will throw in a well used veloce 38 ring....no one will take it!!

  • very unique

    Shame on you.

  • "I dont think they would hit an old steel bike marked as 100 gbp for anything?"

    I wouldn't count on it.

  • It's a quiet Tuesday morning, so I'll bite...

A fellow cyclist offering a very unique bike up to other enthusiasts,
shouldn't be made to feel as though they've committed a heinous crime
    because of a tech error...

It wasn't the so much the tech error, more than you offered it cheaper on there than on here (ie. free postage).

I think the use of such a term in relation to a posting for selling a bike is a touch over the top.

In a battle of 'over the top-ness', I'd wager that
"ONCE IN A LIFETIME OPPORTUNITY!!!!!!....ABSOLUTELY UNIQUE!!!!"
would probably take the yellow jersey.

Self sanctifying churlish comments are probably not the most welcoming
and effective form of addressing NEW members to any forum,

Making your introduction to a forum with
"SERIOUS BUYERS ONLY.....NO DREAMERS OR TIMEWASTERS PLEASE"
is probably not the most welcoming and effective form of addressing existing members of any forum.

It is a lovely bike, but for me it's over-hyped and overpriced.

and cheaper again on here too:
    http://www.tokyocycle.com/bbs/threads/nos-1977-guerciotti-full-campagnolo-sr.6060/
    AU$3500 = about £1800-£1850

  • I echo Philbythesea's comments.

Reading the latter part of the thread, I had some empathy for the OP. Then I looked at the opening paras of the thread. Over-hyped with a touch of hubris.

Nice bike. Good luck with sale but you are very optimistic on price for this forum--particularly given the strong import duties (if you don't wish to break the law) to the EU --even disregarding transport costs.

  • Just what I've been waiting for! The opportunity to send a couple of grand to a stranger with no forum history...on the other side of the world no less!

  • Oooh, classy. Can't top that.

  • Best of luck with the sale - I think it looks terrific and if I could afford to splash the cash and were a few inches shorter I'd buy it..

  • This is such a tricky one.
I was with halfmanhalfbiscuit about the unfriendliness towards new posters but then I noticed the Rapha club reference and then I noticed the 'my work in the medical field' bit, and then I noticed he's called himself halfmanhalfbiuscuit. Half Man Half Biscuit were one of Peel's fatal errors anyone who brings their music back to mind needs banning.
    Nice bike though.

  • I raised an eyebrow at the 'my work in the medical field' bit too.

With regard to your beef with Half Man Half Biscuit, you are simply wrong.

  • Kindness of Trees, I almost specifically asked you not to do that.
Peel compared HMHB to the Bonzo Dog Doodah Band (also awful, also unfunny). The only difference is Bonzo Dog were unfunny when there were so many psychedelics around that no one was funny (on purpose). HMHB were unfunny in a golden age of comedy.

  • To the forum users....Ps (not a specific reply to Fintan!!....just across the board)
Thanks for the feedback....Just to clarify, I think the use of the words 'due diligence" in relation to a NEW or OLD member of a forum is absurd.....the use of the term 'medical field' in relation to the due diligence was to highlight the absurdity of using the term in relation to SELLING A BIKE...(and I don't know how I would have previous sales history as a new member through this forum to negate the lack of trust that invokes......should this be met with a veiled attack on my personal honesty I think everyone here myself included buys from unknown people online....the option if I wish to purchase something online is to weigh the risk and research before I buy/part with money) equally, I don't think a mocking tone in relation to the price and the fact that I am located on the other side of the world is justified and frankly quite petty). All I was doing was offering a bike for sale, the differences shown in the prices reflects the rapid slide of the Australian dollar over the last couple of months.and the different posting times.....(almost 15%) the reason it was on any other site, was that I was unaware that the other posts had not fully removed.......My intention in offering a bike which some see as expensive (which in my opinion it is!..(but certainly not in my opinion overpriced.)...and costs no more so than a run of the mill carbon frame with ultegra 11........horses for courses....I may feel someone laying down 4k on a campag 50th group in a different light to the buyer....but I wouldn't mock him over it). In relation to the fairly unique nature of the bike....I stand by it...(the tagline is that, a tagline, it's not meant to be a proclamation of personal superiority......and I don't think mentioning that the bike was on show at the Rapha shop is anything to be ashamed of......I think it just highlights the quality of the bike....I suppose they could have put a 6k Dogma up there and yes, I spent a lot of personal time answering/photographing and replying to a lot of people (WHICH I EXPECT TO DO), who the majority of the time, either did not follow up the reply or who made an offer that was well over 50% lower than advertised.....so there have been a lot of timewasters/dreamers.....just as I would be that if I was getting in touch with Eddy Merckx for one of his 70th's.....Is it worth the nearly 20k for a steel frame and campag group??...You could look at the offers as ....well maybe that's what it's worth....well to certain people it is....and them people should walk on by.....just as I did with the Merckx...but I'm still daydreaming!!)...I see thousands of everybrand 2k carbon machines I could pick up any day of the week, I don't think there are many 1977 Guerciotti with this spec as NOS around..and the ones I see people/dealers putting up there can be significantly more)....I don't understand why people can not just look at the post, inquire if interested, and pass by if not......simple (the other listings I have/attempted to remove), I was unaware of the sardonic nature of the Talking heads post....which I have no issue with (showing I was unaware that it had not removed from the other site as I didn't at the time connect the reason for the post).....and Like this bike, Half Man Half Biscuit is a Marmite taste.......each to their own. Without any need or want for comment or feedback on this next point, I am selling this bike as my son is seriously ill and have a need not a desire to part with this bike.....................I would have liked it to go to a fellow cyclist/enthusiast without resorting to Ebay...... Best wishes to all cyclists out there..................Now off to watch some ten pin bowling

  • Thanks Shaun ......take a few vertebrae out....you'll be fine :)

  • My use of "Due Diligence" does apply to new and old members alike.
    In particular to new members.

You've registered here and are new to here, you must read the rules and comply with them.
I've been pointing that out to everyone who's been "caught" non following them.

For you it might "just be selling a bike", but, as your lengthly explanation pointed out, that's your point of view and you shouldn't be "mocking" us about asking members to follow them.

Every forum has its own rules and its own "type" of people on it. Some might say that this one in particular is not afraid of being witty, but so be it.

Fact remain, you didn't read the rules and you didn't follow them from my point of view (none of us had any ways of knowing you've tried to delete the other thread)
Fact remain, also, that you could've also presented yourself and make yourself known a bit, it would have improved our trust in you, given you're not "just selling a bike", but a damn good one for a damn expensive price.

  • Ha Ha, excellent. I guess you're a fan of Annie Lennox/ have a German Shepherd dog called Prince/were due to appear on the Crystal Maze, etc.

Seriously, Half Man Half Biscuit weren't some 'wacky' alternative comedy type band - it's satire really (the aspiring middle classes being the object of their ridicule, mainly).
It's no coincidence that, when asked what current 'Indie' bands Nigel Blackwell might be into, he paused for a moment, before proffering, "The Fall..."
In any case, they're misanthropes, and there's nothing wrong with that:

  • I think the reason you were pulled up on the phrase 'fairly unique' is because there's no such thing, not because people doubted that the bike was indeed unique in any way: something is either unique or it isn't, and cannot be unique by degrees.
