@Soul what's the second airport extreme and Apple TV set up for?

I've got the living room with the following:

1. Big TV (50 inch)
   
2. AV receiver
   
3. Sky modem
   
4. Airport Extreme
   
5. Blu ray player (wired to network)
   
6. Sky box (wired to network)
   
7. Apple TV (wired to network)
   
   

This gets used mostly for watching sport, Sky+ programs & netflix. The Apple TV also gets used quite a lot for playing music through the floorstanding speakers

Then we've got the spare bedroom which has been turned into an "office" / gaming room. It has:

1. Smaller TV (37 inch)
   
2. Airport Extreme
   
3. Sky box (wired to network)
   
4. Apple TV (wired to network)
   
5. Xbox One (wired to network)
   
6. Wii U (wired to network)
   
   

This gets used mostly for gaming but the Apple TV is there for when either one of us want to watch something different to the other (usually when sport is on the big TV).

The reason they're wired is that the Sky Box doesn't have a wireless connection so I bought the extreme for that. It then just makes sense to wire the other connections to it for simplicity. That way, I can swap things in and out of the cabinet and not have to set up wireless connections etc.

One thing I forgot to mention is that all my music (approx. 400Gb) is stored in lossless format on my Mac Mini along with about 200 films and several thousand TV episodes. These stream (though iTunes) to both Apple TVs which makes playing media in either room really simple.

Did you buy all that stuff off iTunes or were they 'purchased' elsewhere?

My Apple TV won't sync my movie library at all, I have to use Plex which can be a bit hit & miss at times...

It's all content owned by me but it was ripped and cataloged (which took fucking aaaaaages) manually.

For Movies & TV Shows I used rippit, then batch processed them through Handbrake using an automater flow. Then they were tagged etc using iDentify.

All music is stored in ALAC as it plays nice with iTunes / iPhone etc but it can easily be converted back to FLAC in the future.

I've never bought anything from iTunes (apart from phone apps).

Why not just use caliper brakes, long drop if more clearance required?

Maybe not en vogue but would be the most straight forward solution.

Alternatively you could get some brakes like the Paul racer mounting on a caliper mount?

I did think about it but I'm building a do it all frame and want to cover as many bases as I can for when I've only got space for one bike at a time.

I suspect most of the time it'll have caliper brakes and gears.

So you want a track legal, gravel, cx, road and touring bike with clearances for fat tyres for the odd trip to swinley?

Re brakes, you could get swap out drop outs on the back with disc tabs and gear hanger, and a spare pair of forks. This could give you adjustable chainstay length too.

Pretty much this yeah.

It's a massively tall order but with internal cable routing and some brake mount trickery I think it might work.

I actually didn't think of swapouts but they look perfect. I was planning to use track ends with a removable mech hanger so when the wheel is slammed I can just about get a 28c in and use the brake bridge for road brakes but have clearance for 35+ mudguard when all the way back in the track ends.

I've given it quite a bit of thought but still need to give it a whole lot more, will start a build thread with the cad drawings pretty soon.

Edit: I mainly want mini Vs for CX but would also like provisions for discs when what I want inevitably changes.

Surely you'd be able to have at least two bikes. One versatile geared bike and a track/tarck bike should be fine.

Track bike + bike bag and hide it behind the sofa.

Probably going to end up travelling a fair bit in the next couple of years and it'd pay to have one versatile bike instead of trying to convince people to let me occupy their sofa and bring a road bike, cross bike and track bike.

One bike can't do all that, or if it can it'll be massively compromised for most types of riding. Just get a steel frame built with discs and big tyre clearances and a various mounts brazed on. If you want it to be track legal then you're going to have to carry around track wheels + new handlebars and cranks as well, hardly going to be that portable.

If you're going to go to tracks on your travels, most will have some sort of bike hire available.

The Head Doctor appears to be made for aluminium steerers and not carbon, have suffered the same problem myself.
