Did you fall off the first time you tried clipless pedals?

clipless pedals stopped me falling off. I used to fall off when I wore straps, and couldnt reach down to undo them in time.

I think your doing it wrong if your undoing your straps eveytime you take your feet off the pedals

Fitted time atacs to the other half's fatbike today. After a ride to the end of the road and back she said she was ready to go off-roading. She had a few minor teething problems clipping in a couple of times but that was it. My job of turning her into a female clone of me in full rapha kit wearing carbon soled sidis has been successful.

I just can't bring myself to even imagine trying them. When I see those ugly ass pedals and them shoes... And people walking around in them like prima donnas... Shudders

There's a reason that most people who cycle loads or race use them, they're more efficient and comfortable when setup correctly.

If/when you try it, you won't go back.

I'm sure they are for loads of people, they're maybe even better overall if you would start putting all the pros and cons on paper.

I guess I'm just against gizmos and gimmicks. We're too damned spoiled.

I'm enjoying caged pedals at the moment, I must invest in a good clipless setup some time.

So, after riding with straps for almost a year now on my city bike, I bought a MTB and went clipless for better climbing.
Did not fall down. clipping in still requires some faffing about with the foot on the pedal, clipping out works flawlessly.

went from straps to clipless about 25 years ago (after being 'strapped' for years) and during those first rides, I found myself once too often lying on the sidewalk next to the red traffic light I wanted to stop for... Changing reflexes from pulling my foot backwards to twisting it, brought me in some silly looking situations.

Recently I bought a vintage racebike with straps and though I didn't fall, it took me again some rides to get used to the different way of getting my feet unfastened.

Took about 9 months before I stacked it with clipless, on a forum ride too.
I'm currently trying to up my trackstand game, so I'll be falling down again soon... probably infront of 30 impatient commuters just as the lights turn green.

I'm sure they are for loads of people, they're maybe even better overall if you would start putting all the pros and cons on paper.

They say politeness doesn't cost anything, well it cost me some leg skin and some bartape. On the cycle path, see 2 women running towards a gate chicane thing and slow down to let them go through first. First one doesn't manage to say thanks or smile but at least meets my eyes to acknowledge my existence, the second one can't even be arsed to do that, I go through the chicane nodding my head and just as I'm thinking how fucking rude people are, my toe hits the front wheel and down I go. The only thing that could have made it worse is if I'd shouted a sarcastic comment first. Clips and straps for the sake of reference........... My days of politeness are officially over.........

Caved and bought spd sl's for the sunday bike and the track one. Still got half toes on the regular road bike. Gonna be sketchy riding past Camberwell up to the hill on clipless for hhv. Look out for a ginge that has stacked it

Yep, after a couple near misses it finally happened today. I was fine up Camberwell Green, Denmark Hill, etc... but after that hard two hours this morning at HHV, I comfortably rolled out the entrance, tried to get balanced and see if the road was clear, then I was on my knee. Balls. Had to happen some time. The postman across the road looked disapprovingly.
