  • Looks gawd. But I just realized I am actually very happy with GP4's and would like to try something else out of boredom and curiosity more than actual need. God damn shiny things.

  • Speaking of which. Would love to find complete slicks, like not-a-single-thread slicks, are there any?

  • Rubino slick, thickslick

  • Schwalbe Ultremo and the its successor, the One. Slick, fast and available in 28 mm.
As for a fast yet skiddable tire, Hutchinson Intensive may fit the bill.

  • Intensive isn't a slicker though it seems

  • Thanks everybody, some interesting and new choices, Schwalbe One looks great! Think I'm gonna try one out.

  • Decided to try Schwalbe One despite my typical riding habits. In terms of grip, I would be hard pressed to find a difference between them and the new Duranos (which in my opinion, are superb) except for maybe a tiny placebo due to the softer compound. Weigh a bit less too and roll exceptionally well. Been two weeks of London all day, every day (and an alley cat which typically sees many bad attempts at hopping the curb) and no punctures so far, seems like the V-Guard is doing its job admirably.

If they last me a couple of months then I don't see why would anyone want anything else.

  • I'm riding on 28mm Ultremos most of the year, mostly in town - and they are amazingly resistant when you consider how thin they are.
I managed to get about 5500 km from them, punctured a 4 or 5 times (pinch-flat mostly, due to my non-existent skills when it comes to hopping curbs).

Their only real weakness are sidewalls, which are very thin; if you scratch it between cobbles or so, they are pretty much toasted.

I use 28mm Duranos for the winter ; I'd say the grip is a bit inferior (but as @cable says, it could well be an effect of the stiffer casing). Much more compound in the middle, which should give a better mileage.

  • Schwalbe One it is, then. At least in front.

  • Right on - I have a high performance tyre on the front and a skidder tyre rear. #whatsmartpeopledo

  • Are Team Sky riding clincher Gatorskins?

  • not judging from their 2 punctures in quick succession at Tirennio today, I think they're on Veloflex

  • Sigma have the Pave for £33 each at the moment I think.

  • The Open Pave CG is £31.50 at evans and ribble. Evans have the 27c too.

  • Evans have the 27c too.

  • Funny thing is they're one of few WT teams that don't have a tyre sponsor so get to choose...

  • time for new tires im looking at a bit bigger than 23s and pair for between £50-£60 whats good apart from gatorskins? any recommendations and not really a skidder.

  • really liking 23c Panaracer RiBMos at the moment....

  • Just ordered two Clement LGG 28c 120 TPI on bike24 for the road/commuter. Will report...

  • Bike tart question! I'm thinking of reverting back to gum walls from the current white walls (Michelin Pro4) on the posh bike for the Summer. The white walls stay pretty white with some application of soap and water; is it possible to keep gum walls looking new if sticking to dry weather rides or do they just discolour over time? This seemed to be the case with the Challenge Forte I had on previously, but I was considering the Vittoria Open Corsa Evo SC.

  • is it possible to keep gum walls looking new if sticking to dry weather rides.

Even more so if you have a winter bike.

  • I'm so impressed about the Open Corsa CX 25c - 10km of gravel riding only made 1 tinitiny cut. The CX seems to have 30 gram more of rubber on them than the SC.
