You know I can never leave you dicki..
Nah, the gf likes volcanic islands and I thought I'd surprise her with a trip to one and Hawaii was the first thing that popped into my head. It will likely be in the middle of winter here so the warmer the better (I have no idea where Hawaii is so they could be under ice for all I know).

Yup - went to Kauai a couple of years ago - was amazing if somewhat wet (went in January)
Did a week or so there bookended by a Stay in SFO / LA at each end.Few pics here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/danburbridge/sets/72157629722391993/
No active Volcanoes on Kauai - but amazing Hiking/Jungle and beaches and good MTB'ing - a lot quieter than the other islands too. Feral chickens everywhere...
We stayed in a self catering place on a tropical fruit farm - the fruit there was amazing - loads of stuff I had never seen before. Awesome fish/sushi too.
Would love to go back...

Lasting memory. Leave the hotel out of the front door. Walking maybe 200m a few minutes? Start to rationalise odd feeling due to no facilities for pedestrians when at same moment massive 4x4 mutant vehicle stops, driver looks at me and burning rubber jump starts. Walk back to hotel.
Would do again. Can recommend.

my choice would be Sicily, the Roman Theatre in Taormina...gives a brilliant view of Mount Etna
Anyone been here?
Anyone been to one of the volcanoes?
What would you do with a week here?
I know Iceland is closer for volcanic activity but I've been already and want somewhere warmer (as in generally warmer, not as in erupting red hot magma onto my head).
