It will look less gappy with fat tyres and muduards :-) Which size frame was it?
-
• #803
Please say it's the 64cm :-)
-
• #804
sir do you have a moment to talk about 650b?
-
• #805
Could be a good point.
Frame was only a 58 I'm afraid!
(I'd be ordering a 56)

If its disc there is no reason not to; it means you can get cheap MTB wheels and put on nice and supple compass tyres for road usage OR knobby for off road ..

650b seems pointless here... With room for 26x2.0 or 700x42 WITH fenders depending on which versin, clearance doesn't really come into it. Dropping the 700's already low BB might cause some problems too. Cheap 26/29er wheels work fine for their respective versions, cheap or expensive tyres available in both to cover pretty much all conditions (lightweight 26x54c Compass coming shortly as an example...)

With the 26 inch frame rather than the 700c?
Sorry, just seen Andy's post

Agree'd with Andy. Amey, I know it's good but 650b isn't the answer to everything in the cycling world!

Not sure if ANY wheels size have a distinct advantage in this scenario. So 650b is just a suggestion. There is more tyre choice in 700c for road use.

Hello,
I have just signed up to this forum so thought I should introduce myself and see what you guys think of my bike and how I can improve it I know it is very basic.
My name is William and I'm from Birmingham but live in Cardiff. I have no idea if there is any sort of fixie community in any of these areas.
I wanted a bike to get to and from uni so dug out this old 70's Dawes Galaxy from the shed and put some elbow grease into to make my current bike.
Let me know what you think.

The only possibly benefit I can think for 26 to 650b would be for the increased wheel diameter when running "skinny" tyres, (26x2.0 is almost the same outer diameter as 650x38c, but likely much ligher). Saying that though, you could just buy the 700 version and run 38s on that with even more rollovershitability...

Endless debates about wheel size is all getting a bit singletrackworld...
Have we done the Genesis 2015 bike for recall? That's a bit more ontopic http://www.genesisbikes.co.uk/blog/12/03/15/important-consumer-notice-genesis-is-recalling-steel-forks-on-3-2015-models

Welcome to the site William. The first rule of posting an image of your bike on LFGSS is Never/Ever compromise a drive side shot of your bike - the bag in the first pic has to go!

Also, wrong thread.

(I'd be ordering a 56)
Go for the 700c version. There's enough clearance room and it will look more in proportion. 26" only makes sense for small frames or people who think they're going to tour Africa and won't be able to find a 700c tyre when they do.

Oh and to all the 650b neigh sayers:

Just to throw a spanner in the works I managed to get a good run on an awol today.
Geo felt very very odd initially, stack is massive, slightly twitchy at very slow speed till I got used to the short stem. Spyres felt crap.
After a few miles really enjoyed trundling over everything in my path
Decisions, decisions

I hope you know your stuff to build it up properly.
Test road a disc trucker yesterday.
Really liked it. Was far more sprightly than I expected it to be for such a beast of a bike.
Looks like I'm going to get BC to build one up but I'm back the the age old question of 26 or 700c?
I was on the 26 wheeled version yesterday which looks more than a bit odd but in a frankenbike kind of way.
Reckon the ability to run 2inch tyres and guards would be worth it though.
Any thoughts?
