  • do you even hic

Just keep your brake pads clean.

  • Sorry Dan, I know this is a SRS BZNS.

    FWIW Ardennes are fucking awesome.

(Dan knows this already as I shared it with him on Whatsapp).

  • No-one have any input on the H plus son grabby braking then?

  • Rim brakes are very CTC these days - maybe ask there?

  • What brake pads? I bought and sold a set before they could lose the anodising ;) They were fine with swisstop pads. No idea why people bother with them anymore now that Kinlin have come up with a wide rim which is cheaper and lighter ..

  • swisstop blue

  • Because they come in lots of colours. They're 2014/5's Deep Vees.

  • Why you winking motherfucker. Because the quality of Kinlin rims isn't as good as H+ Son.

Dan - I didn't find the braking very grabby. I thought it was good. Better than my current rims but not as good as Belgiums.

  • I've heard bad things about the finishing on the kinlins - also (again) not available in bike shops and not available in 32h. Jimbilly very kindly rebuilt my wheels in a hurry and they had Archetypes in stock, so that's what I got.

  • Because the quality of Kinlin rims isn't as good as H+ Son.

    Is that true?

  • thanks Jake, finally some useful feedback. I've just given my brake blocks a light sanding, will see how they fare on the ride home.

  • It most likely has nothing to do with the rim.

  • Who makes HPlusSon rims?

  • Almost brand new brake pads - with Sram Red callipers. Hard to think what else it could be.

  • So how come you didn't go for the DT Swiss R460?

    ;)

  • Couldn't get them in 32h in a hurry. Madison still don't have any stock in the UK.
Rim choosing process was expedited by rear rim cracking and me going to Mallorca tomorrow, so I just had to get them rebuilt quickly.

  • Yeah I was just teasing.

Maybe give both pads and the rim a thorough clean? Something relatively strong on the brake track area and then lots of light braking ~~until you leave. ~~ if you have time.

  • Installation error. With myself anyway. Everything but bar tape or change chain goes ever so slightly wrong. Then I go to a few bike shops that think nothing is wrong, have a laugh to myself at the ideas they come up with and bring it to the guys I trust who tell me what went wrong.

  • Once I'd worn away the braking surface anodising, the braking became better, also. So maybe the best is yet to come!

  • Hope so. Might just take some other wheels with me.

  • Had both hard grey ano (front & rear brake) and black ano (front brake only), with Swissstop green: no squeal, no judder, no nuttin' from the off.

So I'd go with it being something correctable, rather than component choice.

    Personally I don't bother with toe-in.

  • I'm having a similar issue with some old anodised MA2 tubs. Squeely, juddery. SRAM Red calipers, stock green pads.
