Detailed fantastic land-, and cityscapes

  • I think its because of the sad news about Terry Pratchett that I am looking for some wierd and wonderful pictures for my baby son's room.

We are in the midst of sorting out his nursery, and my wife is decorating it with her impeccable taste. I want to add something that resonates with my influences growing up, and the Discworld figured large.

I thought I'd have a look for some fantastic colourful cheery illustration with the sort of detail that used to keep me fascinated for hours, and hoped the creative types on here might be able to chip in with more learned suggestions.

    So far I have:-

  • schuiten!

  • Roger Dean (Views) was part of the background when I was studying. Most of the common room walls were covered with posters - admittedly this was a time when a triple album sleeve was 4 feet long and a foot high (Yessongs) - something you don't get with a download...

  • I follow this guy on Twitter who posts imaginary cities: https://twitter.com/oniropolis

  • I like the Belleville backgrounds. A good friend from uni ended up working as a background illustrator/colourist for one of the sequels.

  • used to love the Rodney Matthews calendars

  • Mark Salwowski?
Bit heavy for a kids room perhaps but it's all pretty rad.

That, and raising a kid on Iain M Banks books at bedtime would be no bad thing...

Also, when I was little I was obsessed with Frank Muir's What a Mess books, there was always really cool mini pieces at the bottom of each page that kept me fascinated.
