  • What would those of you without locks do if you had a mechanical failure that makes your bike unrollable? Carry it home? @Emyr I like the idea you are trying to save weight... Whilst commuting by fat bike :)

  • I don't always commute by fatbike, but when I do, it's fast and dirty.

  • I haven't thought that far ahead but I would probably phone my mum, she's good in emergency situations.

    Get it to a nearby bike shop (if there's one open), or to work, or back home.

    How? By train or tube if it's not at peak time, and to get to/from the station might need a black cab (if it's way too far to carry).

    I've had mixed results trying to flag down a black cab with a bike, a few will drive past but eventually one will stop.

    When I was doing the nursery run I used to carry a lock when commuting so that I could, if necessary, lock it up wherever I was and race to collect my daughter in time.
