  • The tyre zip sound good but going on how binded some tyre irons can get i imagine the only work on quite supple tyres anyway.

I don't have hollow tech but a fork steerer tube plus would be just a simple I'd imagine and more universal.

  • At what point does one require a HV pump instead of HP? I'm running 35c tyres on all my bikes these days at around 70-80psi.

I currently have a Blackburn Airstick 2stage. I really like the switchable high-volume and high-pressure modes but I've damaged more than one valve due to the lack of hose.

  • Is the forum / @TM favourite still the Lezyne Pressure Drive?

  • Well I came in here because I just broke the handpump I've had for 6 years (it had a good innings and will be missed)

Seems like I'll be buying a Lezyne Pressure Drive then.. you all seem to rave about it!

Probably the only bit of bike kit you buy, and hope never to use..!

  • Purchased a Lezyne Pressure Drive just the other day to replace a Topeak Pocket Rocket that seemed to let more air out than in.

Very impressed after a test run. A bit disappointed that the barrel doesn't lock like on the Pocket Rocket though.

  • Dear Lezyne,

I was under the misundestanding that to stop your pressure drive removing the inner tube valve core, you just need to press the black button.

When actually you need to use some sort of tool to do up the valve core as tight as you can, pump, press the black button, pray, and unscrew connection as gently as possible.

I will still be super gluing all valve cores in future just in case.

  • anyone making a mini pump with a digital gauge?

  • I gave up on my lezbo after being stranded with coreless conti's . Topeak pocket rocket again for me.

  • Come on Jon, play fair. Nobody's really got a normal mini pump right yet! ;)

Cannondale Airspeed Mini Dual / Transition - some reviews seem a bit iffy though and I'm not sure they are available in the UK. Other than that...

  • Pls see attachment... Just the right amount of electrical tape means you can jam it shut, can come in handy on the road too, fixed a stranded mamils split rim tape for him a while ago, and patched his tube. Saved his wife a drive out.

Only ever had the valve core problem once, maybe you guys are tightening the nozzle too much when you screw it on?

I've got the old hose with no black button, I thought the black button was to release air if you put too much in...

  • Had mine for years, the only issue I've had is that I lost all the rubber seals one by one, but these are available as a kit easy enough so replaced them and hopefully see another 3-4 years out of it... Sorry I'm late to the party but HV is meant to do up to 80 and HP is meant to do up to 120... Then there's another that does upto 160 but I think it is low volume.

  • I thought it may be a little too much to ask. I don't need high pressure, just an accurate, portable way of assessing pressure in a cyclocross tyre. Niche market. Will just have to keep lugging my track pump to races on my back, along with the spare wheels, or alternatively buy a separate digital gauge and a lezyne mini floor pump.

I believe the black button on the Lezyne pumps releases air from the pump itself which means that removable cores shouldn't come out. It usually doesn't work. Buy the speed chuck and you should be safe.

  • I have the SKS digital pressure gauge, very small and light, works well

  • Top tip dude. Cheers

  • The Lezyne "High Volume" pumps state 90psi max; is it going to kill me to get it near that with a hand pump?

I have 4 bikes with 35c tyres at 80psi but 1 MTB with 2.4" at ~40psi.. not sure if I should go for HV or HP.

  • You should be fine with the HP assuming you have normal arms. It's mainly the time to pump rather than difficulty.

One thing someone else suggested in this thread when I was looking for a mini pump was to get the medium version. I ignored it because size was no.1 priority (I was actually looking for something smaller than the Lezyne). However, if it's going to live in a bag or strapped to your frame 90% of the time I would also say get the medium as its still very small and the weight difference is negligible.

    Specs
    SMALL: 170mm | 77g
    MEDIUM: 216mm | 90g

  • Frame pumps, what's good?

  • jesus! really?

Park tools if you insist; tumblr approved

  • Going full Randonneur.

  • Zefal hpx.

    Accept no substitutes.

  • Which hand pump with a guage should I own?
Weight is a factor. Efficiency in use. Cost is not (within reason) (diamond encrusted not needed)
