  • Lots of nice bikes out today. Nodders getting properly tooled up.

    #noddersLOL

  • Still alive, they had to jack the train up. Anyone remember that Vincent D'onofrio episode of that crime drama? It won awards and was based on a true story I think.

  • Apparently she survived!

"The passenger has been recovered by the emergency services with non-life-threatening injuries."

  • I had curious experience of riding in the left hand lane of a two lane one-way road, with a taxi outside of me and various drunken race-goers completely oblivious to me stepping out from the left hand pavement, arms aloft trying to hail the cab right in the middle of my lane. It was a change from dodging potholes. During race week Cheltenham turns into the arsehole of Britain.

And before anyone says it is always the arsehole of Britain, no its not, that is Newport, Wales. Its official.

  • I grew up in Cheltenham and had a pretty low opinion of it. Now I am boring and middle aged it seems nice. But Gold Cup week has always been a bit mad.

Lovely cycling country round there - I rode my first century from there when I was a student, heading up to Tewkesbury and Upton, down the other side of the Severn to Gloucester and on to Berkeley, across to Lechlade and up to Burford and back through Northleach. 140 miles on my old MTB.

  • ^ this, but also, how fucking busy is it getting these days?!
More bikes than cars this morning on my commute!

3/10 Where were you hiding in January??

  • I thought it was quiet on all fronts today...

  • Quiet one today, apart from the aforementioned tailback on wandsworth road, but also have another one to filter past up on richmond road as it heads into twickenham, providing tail backs almost to richmond bridge..

  • Hoping to take Tube this morning (carnage), turned around and went back for bike and negotiated the consequently nightmarish queues of traffic and packed buses. Still, much happier commute than those ex-Tube riders waiting for busses along CS7. RIP lady tube rider's coat. Nice weather 8/10

  • Fearing having to take peak time tube this morning for a job, it was a breeze. I guess everyone was out cycling. I even got a seat. 8/10

  • That was because the whole of South London couldn't get on to the tube network, as the northern line was closed.

  • Hit my face on a car this morning.

A&E was quiet and it only needed glue rather than stitches so was out in an hour.

    Bike is borked.

    3/10

  • You seem to misunderstand the meaning of the term 'nodder'.

  • Sorry Hippy, but I think they're awesome.

    Nodder and liar.

    ;)

  • Crashing is fun!

  • Race week is just a horror now, it's like I've been transported to to one of those exploitative 'documentaries' on Magaluf. I'm look forward to having to shoulder charge myself off the train again.

Yeah great roads around here, sounds like a great ride, and on an MTB.

  • It kinda is actually.

Exciting, interesting and a welcome change to the daily routine. If I were to do it all again the only thing I'd change would be to have taken change to buy Nik-Naks in the A&E vending machine. Really gutted not to be able to buy Nik-Naks.

  • I'm pretty prepared and last time took a book, phone, couple of protein bars, a can of drink, an apple, some tic-tacs and chewing gum. The only thing I didn't have was beer but they'd probably frown on me a bit for that. Oh and the missus. You need someone spare so if, in the fucking hours your waiting there, they do happen to call your name and you're having a piss, you're not skipped over. Also, the missus is very handy for food runs to local kebab shops, etc.

  • How do I tell if someone is a nodder? What if someone I think is a nodder actually isn't, and they think I'm a nodder? I'm envisioning some sort of Schroedinger's nodder situation here.

  • ^ Well pro.

    some tic-tacs and chewing gum

Minty fresh in case you successfully charm the sexeh nurses?

  • wonder if there is a nodder forum somewhere where they talk about fixeh skidders and how shit they are and then one or 2 of the nodders stick up for the skidders.

going to go try find it back later...

  • Oh :( sorry to hear. I wasn't actually going to mention anything but just so you don't feel left out, I had a burst water main + manhole cover combo today.

I had just peeled of Trafalgar Sq roundabout at about warp 9 heading towards Haymarket as I do every morning, but on this occasion I failed to dodge the wet road metal in front of me. It snatched my front wheel out and I was on the floor within a split second. I slid 15 yards on my knee and hand Moto GP style.
