  • Id imagine a Uni crown is lighter, but id guess that the problem is clearance? segmented will give you bigger

  • Yeah, not too concerned on weight. just more interested in ride quality. Though if Geekhouse build their rando bike with one - they must be fine.

  • Not entirely certain on the ins/outs of frame building and it's basic equipment (and a very simple view of this) but... if you don't have a tube bender to fashion your own unicrown legs, you'll need to buy them them and possibly compromise on strength/weight/clearance based on what's available from your tubing supplier. With the segmented fork, you design them to whatever spec you want with just a hole cutter.

I'd guess that's the logic behind building them that way - how they ride, I have no idea!

  • My basic (and not really deep) understanding of physics would suggest that most flex from a fork, and thus ride quality, comes from the leg part of the fork and not the crown area, since I imagine the crown would be pretty rigid.
So, just go for a segmented fork, it looks better.

  • Thanks guys. Yeah, have asked the frame designer what he thinks of them, so will wait to see what he says.

  • The Shimano SPD mechanism is likely to be superior with a more positive clip in than copies of them. Knowing that you are definitely clipped in is quite useful. That is where the cost saving is likely to come from.

  • Yes that's worth a thought. I have pulled out of spd's before and fucked myself and my front wheel so don't want to do it again.

  • Shimano A530, got mine secondhand for 10 Euro for the commuter, work good and have a nice big platform, quoted weight is about cca 380 g.

  • Also here to share my misery, I am currently in an student exchange programm in Bologna, Italy and a beautiful vintage Simoncini Proffesionale from early 80ies, fully equipped with Campagnolo, still with a spare tub mounted on the saddle and a bottle for 95,- Euro got sold before I even had the chance to see it (was inserted yesterday evening). Damn, I already saw myself riding in on l'Eroica.

  • Finished the Gazelle.

  • If you're wary of pulling out of SPDs, get some Time ATACs

  • Beautiful, strong aesthetics and that stem!!

  • Thanks, really pleased with it!

I'm also a fan of Time atacs, haven't failed me yet.

  • What's hot with dat stem ?

  • It's nothing breath taking, but TIG welds, bit oversize, bit more positive angle for compact bars, kind of TI finish. It's a personal opinion though.

  • Now i can jump curbs again without dropping the chain, 5 min ghetto solutiuon..

  • Anyone had experience with or know of a good place to get a seat post anodised black? Finding it hard to find a not carbon vintage seatpost in black 27.2

  • Decent day to take pictures of the newest bike.

  • that bottle cage is perfect

  • I think there's on on evilbay ATM...have a look for not to stem

  • Guess who got a Lee cooper built 14bike co frame.

Anybody have the phone nr for bikaholics anonymous?

  • Finished, because i can't justify spending any more money on it and i should probably try sell it.
