  • As above - the axle width depends on the cranks and the chainline measurement.

It seems the primato advanced cranks are designed to be used with the miche 107mm bb, so I would definitely get that one - http://www.lfgss.com/conversations/130300

  • get a 107 if the chainring is too close to the stays. remember its only 2mm wider each end of the axle. Id use a different brand rather than the Miche one though. they are bit shit.

  • And JIS, not ISO. I'd go with a Shimano UN55

  • Guys,

It was my LBS who told me that my BB is 103mm. Since the BB was for some time in a closet, before was put in a Parallax by LBS i don't remember it's precise length, but Miche catalogs and Evans Cycles purchase order says it's a 107mm. Catalog says even more - they make them in 107mm and 110mm only. Anyhow it does not change the "tight situation". :) LBS had to put some kinda of BB spacer on a driveside to avoid rubbing against chainstay.

Anyhow, please see the messy pictures i made - https://www.flickr.com/photos/eddy_krey/sets/72157650824111998/with/16563888848/ and tell me should i be concerned or not? The chainring has like 2-3mm space from chainstay, but if you look on a picture 1 and 2 the crankarm has like 1mm space from a chainstay.

I guess the question would be - is it a mechanical incompatibility or assembling fault?

    Cheers!

  • Miche changed from ISO to JIS not long ago without really telling anyone which is probably where the confusion is coming from. It could be your lbs is telling you to put a 103 JIS BB into some older ISO arms to get a correct chainline

  • another reason to hate miche.

  • ^^ this is very likely. Although the newer arms do say JIS on them.

  • Thanks so far! I double checked all I could without taking the BB out.
Cranks are JIS, like in a picture above. BB packaging which i saved for almost a year now says it's 107mm. I even bought them in one purchase from Evans Cycles, so they shouldn't be from different eras. The chainline itself is also fine, the main concern is - how could there be so little spacing between chainstay and chainring bolt with a 107mm on a Parallax:

It's a 1mm!!! I never had "so tight tarCk geometry" :) frames before and if you can assure me that it's ok then ill rest my case.

    Cheers!

  • I would go for a 109mm bottom bracket, 1mm is pretty close.

I imaging you could end up scratching the frame if the cranks flex under power and a chainline out by 1 or 2mm is better than a scratched frame..

Im pretty sure my miche bottom bracket was adjustable? You tighten the non drive side by an amount first which then detirmines how far the spindle comes out on the drive side.

  • Too tight

  • As per Sheldon

if you install a J.I.S. crank on an ISO spindle, it will wind up about 4.5 mm farther in than it would on a J.I.S spindle of the same length.

I think this is the case. It's too close and will flex that to gouge the chainstay.
If you're sure the BB is JIS then measure the chainline up front. If that is spot on too then you'll have to live with a slightly off chainline after installing a longer bb until you get a better crank. Running a 3/32 sprocket on the back will be more forgiving of the misalignment than a 1/8

  • Here's a pic of the ServiceCourse SL (BeyondClack) stem on my bike:

Considerable pieces if one manages to find them discounted.

  • Thanks, they are my Hipstersleds. ^.^

On a serious note - thanks all for the replies, but i still dont know what to do, because according to this http://www.lfgss.com/conversations/130300/ everything should be Plug&Play: Miche Primato Advanced + Miche 107mm + Miche + Miche = Buddha Fingaz

... at least it was all Plug&Play on my 2013 Langster frameset. :S

  • Hi Cinelli maniacs, I present you my everyday setup, which I'm genuinely proud of :)

  • Minus the front wheel, I really like that build.

  • nice name and nice bike!

  • Thanks - bought the Histogram.

  • wishing the bolt was L.... :(

  • Yup, they've had those a while now. I got my vigorosa while the 20% codes were circulating around too, but the bolt frames are crazy cheap now!

  • @Thuekr I'm tempted. I have to admit.

What are your (Oooh Missus) measurements? I'm not sure about the reach factor, think I may need an L.

  • Will you be riding with risers or drop/bullhorn? I'm 184cm, more legs than torso - rides with drop and minimum 135mm stem, went for size M - I always size down (&possibly going for setback seatpost because of the 76° ST angle on M).
