My oldest, most loved jeans recently started smelling very bad after a particularly sweaty drinking and riding day. Though I'd try the freezer trick.
Put them in a plastic bag and into the freezer for 24 hours. Came our with no odour at all.

That is very good to know; update once they are defrosted please.

eh?

wish this worked but as I understand it the freezer just puts the bacteria to sleep and once you slip them back on and they warm up you're back to square one - shame

Freezer doesn't work for me either. Airing outside a couple of days straight is best. And occasional washing when stench is particularly bad.

They have defrosted and seem fine. I'll wear them tomorrow and report back.

BTW, a bit of research suggests that most bacteria are killed at minutes four degrees, due to crystals forming and rupturing the cell membrane.
I don't see how body temperature can reanimate them.

I haven't washed a pair of jeans in over a year, but then again I don't cycle in them so the freezer works fine for me

I'm not sure it will. Some bacteria are resistant I'm sure. And I have vague memories from food hygiene that it doesn't kill everything.

OK. They did indeed retain a slight whiff. Turned then inside out and put them through the washing machine. Hung up to dry.
I'll wear them today and I hope they're OK. This is their first wash in over a year, maybe as long as two years.

Its like the dreaded cycling t-shirt armpit isn't it? I haven't found anything that can kill it.

Why the actual fuck have jeans become so delicate that they can't handle a washing machine?
-
• #1946
They haven't... It's all about getting the wear but retaining the dark indigo colour... Or at least it used to be...

Having said that, my Buzz Rickson's never got washed and loads of the stitching rotted... Wore them pretty solidly for two years, they just got the occasional airing as well as getting thrown in the dryer with some Fabreze a few times...

TS speaks the truth.
Also if they dry creased you get awful lines that make them unwearable.

You're a father ffs, how can you be so precious?
All my jeans go in the knees from spending so much time on the floor, playing with kids.
Picked these up for a score today
Oh and these too for the same again
