Are they forcing people into buying new shifters through a firmware update?
-
• #628
Sort of plus its getting harder and harder to buy 6770 stuff .. I guess they are just calling it back or something. If you update the firmware above 2.6 you cant upgrade to 11sp by just getting the RD; you will also have to get FD (I think you can still use the same shifters, battery etc)

for what its worth I cant fit a front sks raceblade on my 48cm caad10*
*without cutting off some parts of the guard and bodging the mount to be at the right angle (trail/rake slacker on 48cm vs bigger sizes?) and even then its tight and occasionally rubs on either tyre or downtube.

Is there an update on this?
-
• #631
Off to get repaired by @vavas tonight, single Ti dropout to be bonded in.
When that happens, the bike gets stripped down, everything gets weighed and spreadsheeted, and the camo wrap re-done properly. Also, because it's a repair, no-one is going to buy it off me, I can frankenstein the paint job as much as I want. Snow Camo wrap, hot pink Camodale downtube decals and pink paint flecks?
Not buying the CAAD10 means that a) I'm worryingly unfit and b) I have some money to burn 😈. New wheels are top of the hitlist.

So it's now a winter bike?
-
• #633
I've only got one road bike, so as it's currently winter yes, I guess it is a winter bike Ed.

£££ for repair?
-
• #635
Did the 500 happen?
-
• #636
£150 for the work, plus the cost of the dropout (shipped from the US). Significantly cheaper (and with 1/4th the lead time) I'd been quoted elsewhere.

very nice! Get back on it! and dont put vinyl on it that goes against the WW code .. paint/spray/rattlecan/whatever it
-
• #638
Don't worry pal, it's going to end up WAY under 6.8 without me doing anything extravagant, even with 50g of vinyl and stickers.
It's 7 at present with pedals and cages and all, so new wheels / tyres / tubes and some front end changes and it should be just legal without a huge amount of money changing hands.

• #639
I don't know what this refers to?
-
• #640
The Festive500 was on the cards.
Did you get back on the road for it? In fact have you been bikeless since the crash?
-
• #641
Yes, liking the sound of this! Although I think I'll have have to see the camo wrap and hot pink stickers first to be sure. (Digital urban snow camo?)
Such camo very pink ect ect
-
• #642
No, didn't manage it unfortunately. For all my chat, I just couldn't justify spending £500 minimum to get rolling for Christmas when that money would become obsolete quickly afterwards.

• #643
Update time - the bike has been fixed and is ready for me to pick up. The new credit card is here, and I've purchased the most important thing of all for this project... digital scales.
Just in time for the sun 😈
-
• #644
Who did you use to fix it in the end?
-
• #646
I can't decide whether to finish off the Camo wrap properly, or do a couple of rattle-can coats of matte iron grey and get hot pink decals and hot pink paint-splatter done?
-
• #647
Now were talking, matte grey hot pink splatter. Awesome
-
• #648
Paint it like the Saeco era team bikes
-
• #649
That would be excellent and quite nicely confusing.
Yellow tyres optional.

Sure I was being quite simplistic.
Steel wins for repairability. Have you considered a Talbot?
