Yessss, dig this.
Might get more aeros/power from the reduced stack from Speedplays, but if you don't fancy changing pedals then the Keo Blades are the best bet, mine are sold though. Definitely in the <1w saving there over regular Keos I reckon.Xav reckons A900s and Hed 3 is a good combo so it probably is.
3T brake levers are probably marginally smaller then Sram 500s, if you're buying new.
Rim, hard to see past an Archetype, but anything will do. Obvs weight doesn't matter as much as aero but it's a good place to easily lose 100g of rotational weight for not much money.
Bars, the mid range option is the ADR/PDQ/HongFu setup in descending price order for the same bar. Plenty of people have bought from each of the available outlets, and all seem happy that they're getting the best deal.

Speedplay: yes, but I'm Look otherwise so cost/benefit.
3T levers: seen those, but not read anything. #undertheradar?
Rim: as I'm skinning it and don't need a brake track, Archetype seems overkill.
Will check the bars out: chrz.

Basically the same as the original integrated Ventus lever, very skinny. Steve Irwin uses them, so they're probably the fastest out there. Let me know if you buy a pair and have the second for sale.

Mind you, he does also ride them rotated inwards 90 degrees. Tried it last year and it's very easy to adapt to, and means your dirty airflow goes over the bars. Would do it but the Ventus has too much drop on the base bar.

Stans Iron Cross for rear rim? 385g and 20mm internal but allegedly impossible to fit normal tyres to
-
• #12
Great frame. Gonna make a crazy low pro.
-
• #13
Doesn't take road pressures.

Stans 340 rim? lightest wide modern rim I can think of

allegedly impossible to fit normal tyres to
Hmmm... :)

Weight isn't really a consideration, but it won't hurt to be light: thanks, I'll check it out.

Built by a friend of mine, the hilariously named Helmut P. Burns.

• #18
Really?
Can you ask him who made the track ends and BB shell: I don't recognise the maker's mark.
-
• #19
Yeah not a problem. Send me a couple of shots?

Thanks: I'll get it back Friday.

Anything else he can remember about it, I'd be interested to hear.

Bars, the mid range option is the ADR/PDQ/HongFu setup in descending price order for the same bar.
If I understand the situation correctly, ADR designed and developed the bars, that Hong-Fu rattled off a copy and PDQ are Hong-Fu with a mark-up.

I'm not sure how much input ADR had into the design... I'd suspect they were just the first people to import them into the UK and are now trying to protect their business.

Hmmm....
Looking at their website, it does (on first reading) give the impression that they designed them, eg referencing the first design draft.
But re-reading the page, it is quite carefully worded: "We wanted to market a bar..." [my emphasis] etc.
Also, the blog post I linked to only refers to warranty issues and not intellectual property rights: which you would expect the original designer to do. Although they do stress that the bars they are selling are unique.
So who did design them? I may be wrong, but I didn't know Hong-Fu produced original components of this complexity.
This arrived yesterday (full marks to @JK, formerly @klonaris, for a hassle free trade, speedy dispatch and proper packaging).
It's been around the forum a bit (one, two), losing a few decals and gaining some paint chips, but is ding-free and straight & true.
According to @lightweight "This frame was originally made for me in the late 90s as a Pursuit frame. For a while there was a regulation regarding the protrusion of tri-bars beyond the front hub. Anyone over 6 foot tended to struggle to comply with this. What most tall riders did to get around this was to lengthen the wheelbase.
It might make the frame look a little unusual however it ensures that you don't get any pedal overlap with the front wheel hence its a pretty formidable TT machine on any course without a ridiculous hill and you could generally keep up a pretty decent pedalling rate on roundabouts even with 175mm Cranks. Illy will attest to this also."
Once I get it back from the LBS (where the BB shell is being faced and chased) I will be wrestling with the HS cups: the HT is so short that my extractor doesn't expand to meet the cups' lip, but I should be able to overcome that by jamming an old screwdriver into the extractor, to flare the tangs.
The cups have to go, because the forks have to go: threadless/Ahead FTW.
I was all set on a pair of Argos forks, until I saw @xavierdisley post in the TT thread: "Yeah I think you're quite right. There's a fair interaction between the forks, one reason why I stuck with Jetstreams once I realised they worked with the H3s I was running at the time. I used to pray for wind as if you can hold down a trispoke in a gale it's just so so fast.".
A trispoke is on the shopping list (natch) and I've sourced a NOS pair of 1" A900 for about the same as the Argos: any thoughts?
The rear wheel will be a 23mm disc-brake rim on a Novatec hub, skinned with a RALTech, which (dentists stand by) I'll be building myself: rim suggestions plz.
Drivetrain will be 3/32". Despite a long, largely work-free Winter I've managed to hold onto a pair of Record UT and have a selection of 8v rings: handily, if you reverse them, they work with the OG skinny, later UT chainring bolts which means you can snap-up otherwise worn-out rings cheap.
Having said that, there's a crabon, Fibrelyte dinner plate for a good price "in the other place"...
Phil Wood at the rear (obvs): £10 cheaper new than 1/8" (but less often found second-hand). #swingsandroundabouts
Connex 7R8 is hard to find, but if the 1R8 is anything to go by, worth the chase.
To finish-up below the waist, I fancy some Look Keo Blade Aero: @umop3pisdn?
Having covered "go", "stop" will be down to SRAM TT 500 (or second-hand 900) and, until I've got the means for a TriRig Omega, a 600/DA AX.
The £20 carbon post I have in Y-M 1.0 will suffice until I've got it built and can measure up, then I'll keep an eye open for a Mike Burrows or similar. Cradling my gooch will likely be an Adamo/Selle SMP of whatever flavour shows up for a reasonable price: I'm expecting to kiss a few frogs.
Which brings us neatly to the bars: all the cool kids are rockin' 3T Ventus, but $$$. Even Pro Missile Evo are $$. Recommendations for something cost/benefit concious between the round, 26mm Profile Design I have (teamed with shimmed Vuka Alumina clips) and the aforementioned? Are the Vuka Alumina a reasonable halfway house?
