@GazzaMaxx Yes, to getting it chased and faced, there is a price, for the cheap price and a bit of over spray in the threads can make it a right pain in the arse to fit the BB correctly.
The frame I got before christmas had had the BB threads cut at a slight angle so the bb would not go in straight. By the time i'd worked this out I'd fitted the headset and cut the steerer tube and had the BB chased by a bike shop that confirmed the problem. It was too much hassle to send it back so I'm now using a self threading BB which works much better than the review on the internet suggests. anyway, I digress.

Frame just turned up, realised that may have been a stupid question seeing as I ordered the raw.. no chance of any paint getting where it shouldn't!!

It will have a coating as housecat says, but just get a bb, if it doesn't go in easily get it chased, if it does don't worry about it! :)

Yeah, this lasted about 4500 miles before the bearings started to go. which I think is ok ? (it was during the worst of winter)
SJS have lots of other threadless BBs too. I'm on my second now and not had any problem with them coming loss (you do need 2 shimano style bb tools to fit it and its easier with a 3rd hand) just cover everything in lots of gress and really tighten that bitch up!

Is there a way tell if my v4 raw frame has a clear coat? I ask b/c in the short time ive had it the finish is pretty scratched up and it doesnt look like theres any clear coat pealing up as a result.

Im about 182cm tall on a large b/c i wanted to be able to use different bars and not have to use a stem longer than 110mm. Im using a surly open bar, 100mm x 90 stem and a zero offset seat post.
Before the v4 i was on a M/L which seemed a bit small and i had toe overlap.

Scratches on clearcoat will have white powdery edges. Scratches on bare metal will be shiny until they rust.

Hello all,
New to this.......I was directed here by JAMIE who indicated there is a world of knowledge about the Pompino. It seems he was correct. However, if you don't mind I have a question about Forks. I have just ordered a caliper carbon fork which is just 20mm short of the stock Pompino one (370mm). My questions are, will this change the geometry of my pomp v4 frame to the detriment of the ride, and most importantly will it even work?I await your learned opinions (hoping I have not blown a load of cash up the wall)

For every 15mm you take off the designed axle-to-crown length, you steepen the head angle by ~1° and reduce the trail by ~7mm. You'll probably get some of that trail back as the stock fork has a 45mm offset, a bit more than most road forks. You also steepen the seat tube angle and lower the BB. Pompini work pretty well with the designed geometry, I can't imagine that changing it will be an improvement.

Tester is right re affecting the angles, trail and BB height, but as you can see I did some measuring of angles with two different forks. I got the angles to be a good bit slacker than On One's website with a P2 and then with a road fork, not too far off a normal road bike. So in my opinion using a road fork with normal offset isn't going to make the handling funky by screwing up the trail. The main problem is that the BB height will be lower so you'll have to be careful with crank length especially if you run it fixed. I measured the BB about 10mm lower with a road fork, which is quite a lot to be fair. In my original post, I've got 170mm cranks but it is singlespeed. In the pic below I've swapped to 165mm and now fixed. I'm currently commuting on this and have had no problems with pedal strike, but to be fair I'm not throwing it around like a twat.
I'm not totally sold on it though, and I only did it because I thought pompy's here looked pretty awesome, but I tried it and it handled fine:

So I wouldn't say definitely do it, but don't dismiss it out of hand either. If you know what you are getting into then you'll be fine. At the end of the day, it's your bike, so do what you like.

Mine was fine. I think I actually emailed On-One at the time to ask and they said I could scrape the pain off with a stanley knife blade if I wanted, but don't need to, I didn't.
