  • Shimano makes a cheap 110bcd hollowtech II crankset around 50£ all included - looks like the one in the picture

  • thinking of joining the club... tryingg to get my head around the sizing. any other tall (6foot 3) riders?

XL frame do you think? for delivery work...

  • Sorry just answering the question of what they were no what I'd recommend!

I'm using shimano deore mtb triple, from the year before so it was around £50. Outer ring for bash guard, middle for road gear and granny for polo.

But yeah I'd be going for strength first then cheapness... Looks don't come into it.

  • I'm 6ft4 and used to ride an XL Pomp. Was a decent fit. 100mm stem I think. Used it with MTB risers and drops. Fun with either.

  • @Murphys_Law

Oh and you realise there are people with hope cranksets in polo?

    #muchspendywow

  • I'm 6' and have an L and am right on the cusp of it being too small, would think anything smaller than an XL for you wouldn't fit.

  • I'm also 6'3" and I ride an XL. If anything it's a tiny bit small. I have a fair bit of stack and seatpost.

  • Ta guys. Yeh 75s a bit expensive. But I need a half decent set as once up and running again this is my only bike and i often ride fixed then flip over for polo. I once rounded a set of Messengers off (cheaper than 75s admittedly) by messing about fixed so I was actually wondering about a bmx type splined set - seems you can pick up an eighthinch set online for 50 bugs now.. :/

Hello Khornight btw! I rather miss SE polo, need to get playing again with you lot once i'm back in London..

  • Just had a vague urge to get a low trail fork for my pomp and rock the front rack look.

What's the go-to forum favourite fork for this? Is it the Thorn one?

  • My pompetamine got some new forks today to allow larger tyres up front. Excuse the dirty shared hall way.

  • I'm 6'3" and ride an XL, 120mm stem, loads of post. Fits me fine.

  • Just get a Shimano external-BB compact chainset, take off the big ring and fit either a bashguard or single-ring chainring bolts. Chainline should be close enough.

With Kojak 35-622 tyres, a 34:22 gear ratio should give you an on-trend 42" gear ratio.

  • That's the same gearing I used when riding my old pomp for polo. I managed to get a 16t on the other side to give a reasonable gear to get to the courts on.

  • I came across the latest deal at planet x and I'm tempted to buy one. Now I'm doubting what size I should order.
I'm 179'ish cm's tall and according to the size guide I should take a Large frame.

However, at this moment I allready own a Focus Mares ax 1.0 in a size large.
At this bike I feel a tiny bit to stretched and the horizontal top tube length of this bike is 553mm.

So when I look at the size guid of the Pompino at size Medium the horizontal top tube is only 2 mm less. And the tob tube size of a Large is 565mm.

So now I'm tempted to go with a Medium and install a long stem and have a lot of seatpost showing.

Please help me to get rid of my doubts.

  • I reckon a Medium will suit you fine. I've ordered a Large and I'm 6'1, so I'm just tall enough for an XL but I ride a 56cm roadie.. Never got on with frames that are actually my 'size' (58/XL)

Slightly smaller frames are always more fun anyway!! Much better to have more post and stem than a stubby stem and only a fist of post (which just looks crap imo!)

  • Almost finished my Pompetamine today. Still need to dial in the fit and fit mudguards.
    Specs:
TRP Spyres, Alfine crankset, XM317s on Formula and Novatec, Marathons, gutted Rival carbon levers and some random Ritchey Comp stuff...

  • That looks superb. Makes me very tempted...

  • I survived riding to work brake less today with the new forks. Cant see a way to get a brake to bridge that drop.

  • I love my pomp.

  • haha I bet car drivers gave you a wide berth...

  • I'm pretty much the same height as you and I went medium, so glad I got that and not large. Showing plenty of post but only a 100mm stem with drops.

  • Didn't see many, I stuck to cycle routes through parks and down the river mostly.

  • Is it worth trying to get my new frame chased and faced or are On-One frames usually ok?

  • Oh hai! :)

Yeah square taper are shit, I don't have experience of bmx cranks, but hollowtech bb's are great.
