  • Overnighter to Deal on the South East coast

Idea is to stick together as much as possible and the leaders will wait at non-obvious forks in the road and corners

Ride is 3 weeks before Dunwich

If you want to test your set-up and legs on a slightly cruisier and shorter ride then this could be for you

    166km with large traffic-free sections
    One 5km gravel + 1km grass sections
    23 tires OK
    Bring beer, spirits and food

    Fast-social pace, nobody left behind
Bike, body and brain could be tested : No crybabies, No crap equipment
Be self-sufficient and bring adequate clothing

Plenty of bail-out points enroute, (BUT) you may have a long wait at a train station
Most trains down there resume at 07:30 on Sunday morning (there are plenty of train stations enroute)

    LONDON - Woolwich - Gravesend - Rochester - Rainham - Faversham - Whitstable - Herne Bay - Margate - Ramsgate - Sandwich -DEAL

Meet London Fields - top Broadway and Westgate
    More info soon..
    Start time 20:00 (meet 19:00)

I will be going fixed on about 71GI (46x17:23c)

If you want to ride gears, three simple rules:

    1. Geared riders to the back of field (I want to enjoy the silence of
the night without your freehub ruining it)
    2. On descents give clear warning (on right, stay etc.). Always pass on
      far right
    3. Don't sprint off at the bottom of a descent. Slow down and let the group come back together

  • looks good. Might be in.

  • Stoked to do this ride, wish winter would get lost.

  • Going to ride brakeless Condor Pista, prob with BRP saddlebag.
    46x17

  • I've been waiting ages for a long distance MA3K ride suitable for 23c! This is going to be brilliant.

  • Route finalised.
    Total distance 168km.
Also took out Basser Hill, because who needs that in the middle of the night..

  • If you start late enough I'm in, but can't take that day off work - Already Booked Nocturne and Notts cycle event off either side of it.

  • Thinking to set off 19:00/20:00.

Sun goes down around 21:20 and rises on the coast 4:30ish.

Want to enjoy dusk down the river(a la Heart of Darkness) and hopefully see the sunrise.

  • Earliest I'll get into Waterloo is 6:30pm... I'm provisionally in and have started sowing the seeds of another night away in Mrs Y's mind.

  • 20 minute ride to London Fields from there..

  • I'll know nearer to the date, unsure if I'm at gfs friends wedding then.

  • Hoping to make this.

  • I can knock 3KMs off the route and that shitty section through Rochester Central by going through the A289 Tunnel (240M - in which no cycling is permitted).

We would passing by around 11-12 and have to rejoin the A289 anyway..

    Thoughts?

  • Sounds fun

  • Ha, after doing some more recce stuff this weekend I think the route is pretty dialled-in.

Tunnel may or may not be included..

  • Looks interesting, probably not doing Dunwich this year as starting new job on the Monday so walking in half asleep and like john Wayne probably won't impress
    Definite maybe

  • Is tunnel a Euph?

Bah can't do this ride, and my Avebury plan's now undone.

  • Oops, creeping up quick. Need to sort my overnight bike which has been sitting in bits since December!

  • Might be riding all or part of this Sunday (weather and weariness permitting).
About 170KM's then train back from Deal.

  • will be well up for this!

  • Possibly in too, though will be in douchebag mode ;)

  • Think Dunwich Dynamo x Bridges/Circle Line Ride if you want to get a feel of how this is going to go down..

  • Too blown from yesterday to attempt this today.

Might ride traffic-free to Broxbourne/ Lee Valley Park.
