• Powertap aren't ugly or heavy, are cheaper than the other powermeters that work like P2M and SRM and better than those that don't like Vectors and Stages.

  • Ahh, the 1:20. I wonder how fast slow I could climb that now?

I remember when Trent Lowe smashed up there in 12:something and Cadel is supposed to have done 10 but I find that hard to believe (According to our rough calculations, a time of 12 minutes would require a 60kg rider to average somewhere in the vicinity of 470W and 34km/h, assuming there’s no wind and the attempt was done on the hoods of a 7kg bike. According to this chart, that sort of power-to-weight ratio (7.8W/kg) is a little more than what the best riders in the world can hold for five minutes, let alone 12 minutes.).

  • At my weight, its equivalent to me climbing trollstigen at 520w. Ouchie!

  • Yeah, 520W is a decent FTP..

  • TROLLLOLS ON Trollstigen

  • the very thought of mis-matched front and rear hubs makes me feel uneasy

  • Some of my wheels have Powertap front hubs.

Every time someone fits a Vector, God kills a Stages..

  • Every time someone fits a Vector, God kills a Stages..

    Fine by me :-)

  • .. and a kitten.

  • .. and a kitten.

As long as it's this one:

  • p2m seems the best option

cheaper than stages, same price as vector s

  • If I shifted away from Powertap, it'd be to P2M.

  • There should be a default response to this thread: If you're cheap, buy a Powertap. Bit more flash, buy P2M. Megabucks, buy SRM. Disregard everything else.

  • You callin' me cheap? That's fightin' talk!

    trawls ebay for "used army"

  • I just realised I have 130bcd 53/39 chainring. To be honest, despite living in flat essex I wish I had gotten 110bcd as I am never in the top gear and 110 bcd would give me more flexibility.

Seeing as the p2m replaces the spider, could I just fit the 110bcd p2m ?

  • Yep

  • Lots of fancy graphs and charts going on, I feel a bit lazy now for just using Strava Fitness and Freshness, seems to do the job now that I've got 3 months of power data.

Although my Power Curve Graph is lumpy as hell, probably all the fixed commuting(?).
Need to get out and do some actual riding.

  • The Strava Fitness and freshness is much the same as the PMC (performance management chart) that you get from Training peaks. The difference is that strava believes anything Garmin tells it, and training peaks calculates its own stuff. Pretty sure my strava data is royally screwed. Incorrect peak powers, exaggerated altitude gain data, etc. I'd recomend a free strava account for the segment bashing and Virtual Cock waving (Not the sort of Cock waving you do on chat roulete). Then a paid training peaks Subscription.

  • I prefer keeping data in-house so a one off payment for WKO+ suits me better. It means you can't check shit online but only weirdos stuck in the snow for 11 months of the year do that anyway.

  • (silly)

  • Is TP worth it over say, Golden Cheetah?

  • Basic TP is free, so try it and see if you like it. Also, GC is free so try it and see if you like it :)

  • Give them both a try. If you're like me you'll realise quickly which is for you.

For me Golden Cheetah was 'involving' not in a good way. It reminded me of Windows98.

  • Powertaps are both ugly and heavy. Australians with lumpy triathlon bikes are not allowed aesthetic opinions.
