Which bike is that for? The Elephant or your new tourer?
-
• #4078
Cheap road bike, 48/36 sound apt.
-
• #4079
This seems like it would be a sensible choice for a cross-check tourer... Am I right? Or should I be looking for less speedz? (7 or 8)
-
• #4080
But why don't you just go for a cross chainset.. 46/36 is also fine right?
-
• #4081
On an audax/tourer (46/34), yes, but on a road bike 48/36t with the 13/29 cassette is a good range for me, I'm not racing, don't need the 52t.

I really want an Ultegra CX chain set but couldn't find one in 175mm last time I looked
-
• #4083
Why 175mm?
Didn't you get the memo?
-
• #4084
About the new wave of Aero Cross-bikes?
-
• #4085
Is there's a reason why you think long cranks is good for CX?
-
• #4086
Nope, I missed that one too.
Struggling to see the aero benefit of long cranks (regardless of discipline) and sceptical that it could outweigh the other disadvantages.
That being said, I don't get muddy...
-
• #4087
I don't think that they are good for CX, I think that they are what I use on everything, and therefore if I ever wanted to swap cranksets sticking to one length would make that easier.
-
• #4088
Gotcha, make sense.
I wonder if Shimano gonna updated their CX crankset to the 4 arm one?
-
• #4089
That's the one I'm after:

• #4090
can't you just buy normal ultegra and put chainrings on?
-
• #4091
£130 at Wiggle, but also out of stock: http://www.wiggle.co.uk/shimano-ultegra-11-speed-double-chainset-6800-cyclocross/
-
• #4092
Sure, expensive way of doing it though.
-
• #4093
Ah! so they did made it, excellent, I'll check our distro tomorrow and let you know what the deal with it.
-
• #4094
Ultegra 6800 already has 46/36 one no?
Is it easy to find is another matter :) -
• #4095
.. apart from the fact that the 6800 Shimano outer 46T chain ring has an RRP of £99 ..
-
• #4096
Start with a chainring.

Cavendish sticking the boot in to SRAM here - talking about what happens if it rains at MSR...
“It's down to the individual, if you think logically about it, it's the same for everyone. If it rains I'm happy, I'm on Shimano brakes this year for the descents. That's make me quite relaxed and confident.”
-
• #4098
Hah, you'd think the SRAM hydraulic would be quite enough for him.

Been reading this thread a lot recently. But still can't find a right answer, what are people's opinion between Ultegra 6800 and force 22? It's only for one of my Sunday best bikes.
-
• #4100
6800.
Go Di2 if you can.
Just notice that TA have the X110 chainring allowing me to go as low as 48 on the big ring (and 33t on the small).
Was worried about the limited choice of chainring, doesn't look too bad..
