Ah, maybe not then - time to call on a friend with a car for a lift! Does 'out in the sticks' mean I get to visit the fabled Bike Shed!? How much resistance does the unit add? I'm more interested in working out the position/the very concept of static indoor cycling rather than any serious workouts at first, so if it's tenable without it I could just try spinning whatever gear I end up with using a spare rear wheel/cog?

Also, I assume that rear QR is detachable, or am I going to be stumped trying to use it with a fixed rear wheel?
-
• #104
Yep, the QR isn't an integral part of the trainer.
Using it without the resistance unit would be a bit rubbish tbh, so you'd definitely want that, even if you were only using the lower settings.

If you like :-) I'll PM you the location.

How much resistance does the unit add?
The resistance unit is 1.9kg on its own.

@hudsoncjnr That would be great actually. I'd just said to @BareNecessities that I would try to ride over on Thursday or Friday after work anyway, so if you'd be around at about 16.30 on Friday that'd be ideal? I can give you those mudguards then too!

Friday it is then :-)

I love it when a (local cycling community based) plan comes together.

I'll make sure the automated defence system is switched off.

Arse...I've got to pick Mrs H up from work at 5, so close to a plan!
-
• #112
Bugger. I'll actually be home by 16.15 - reckon we could razz it over to BN's and back in time to pick up Vix?
-
• #113
No worries if not - I can always revert to my plan to ride over, it would just be less precarious in a car!
-
• #114
@thross If there is a Shed visit (!!) involved then I could provide a car although Friday eveing might not be the best time. Saturday morning would be ok for me if you and @BareNecessities were available?
-
• #115
Good lord, this is getting complex...
-
• #117
OK great. Jules, I'll talk to you about how/when we'll get to and from our respective houses tomorrow!
-
• #118
Yes, that's fine.

Anyone have the tools required to remove an ultegra chainset and bb?
-
• #120
Yes!
-
• #121
Awesome, could you bring them in if you make it to beers?
Also text incoming re:other stuff
-
• #122
Yep hoping to make it. What model cranks are they? Just so I bring the right tools.
-
• #123
Great thanks!
Ultegra 6600 and Tiagra

Not a tool, per se, but does anyone have a frame bag that I could borrow for a 3 days at the beginning of April? Either the sort that attaches to seat and back of seatpost, or the sort that attaches to the top tube and seat tube inside the front triangle.
I'd quite like to give one a go before i splash out, and I'm cycling up to Lincoln to see my family that week, so thought it was worth an ask. Usual rules of 'I break it i buy it' and 'returned as lent' apply. Plus there's a couple of tins/bottles of choice or some free spannering in it for the prospective lender. :)

I was considering getting one of these from Alpkit . It should be an inner in theory but the outer is a lot more cash and the bike packing thread seemed to think it would be ok by itself if fitted with enough compression straps and not put through too much hardcore use. Might be worth a punt for £15.
It weighs about 6.1kg and I'm out in the sticks a bit, so you might regret cycling with it.
It's one of these, but it has the bar-mounted resistance lever.
