  • @Chip the PTJ works best with a single layer underneath. Saying this a PT base paired with a PT LS Jersey would fit underneath, all in the same size.

  • softshell and hardshell = ovens

  • Get yourself a Quechua softshell.
Or a promaloft jacket, arctetyx atom.
1st is good down to 2deg
2nd is good down to - figures.

Both look good off vike as normal jackets.

  • I love the PT Softshell, the fit is awesome and it is perfect for tempo riding. A classic is better if you plan on stopping mid ride. The PT jacket is also very good, but for me, it would come third out of those three options. I have used all three and would recommend you go and try them all on to see what works for you.

  • The softshell is a great all-round winter jacket. I bought one four years ago, wear it every winter with a base layer and if I get a bit warm I just open up the pit zips. Keeps me dry and warm and I don't mind wearing it in the pub. They designed it back when they were trying to make clothing that was technical and practical and not fluorescent roadie budgie smuggler kit, and it works great for that. The brand has moved on, of course. But it's great for what it was designed for IMHO.

  • fluorescent roadie budgie smuggler kit

    Most excellent!

  • Saw proper Wapha FKW even down to GT shoes and backpack last night; his rusty squeaky chain kind of ruined the illusion though.

  • Just went and bought a Swrve Deck jacket, half price for £57. Glad i did. It feels great. Saved £180

  • What nonsense, it's all part of a consistent approach to suffering.

  • So much Rapha out in the Kent lanes this morning. Maybe 20% Castelli but apart from that it was a contrast armband fest.

  • A little spam for anyone who might want some medium size gear. (sorry)

  • Where's the deck jacket half price?

  • Paul's Custom Bikes on Bellenden Road, East Dulwich. £57

  • I put insulation tape over the armband

  • classic bib or pro team bib... thinking about what to buy for this season. Any opinions?

  • I have one pair of rapha classic bibs and they are nice but no better than a pair of Morvelo bibs which for the price compared to the rapha's they can't be beat.

  • Cheers, round the corner from my house, a chance to give some business to a guy who always does me favours and I got a sweet jacket for a bargain price. Result!

  • Out of interest, how does the sizing/fit of Morvelo bibs compare to Rapha classic bibs? I was thinking of trying a pair of the Nth Series ones, which look...erm...slightly less pricey.

  • Yeah! I'm well chuffed with it!

  • Well... Still got a Rapha voucher and like the idea of having the bib + Jersey + jacket from the same brand

  • Classic are a bit more stretchy compared to the pro team. The pro team offer compression which feels pretty nice on the legs but they are not that comfy to walk around or ride on an upright position since they are designed for an aggressive position on the bike. So it all depends on what type of riding you do. Oh and both have the same pad.

  • Thaks George. As i think i am more the 6h relaxt than 2h aggressive rider i think the classic one is the better choice.

  • Just read up like nearly 100 pages of this thread since my last visit..

Thanks for teaching me that small gloves cause cold spots, thanks for teaching me difference between ptj (mentioned a hell of a lot), softshells, hardshells etc. , thanks for teaching me that my knees are important!

Now I just need to wait until the next sale and hope that the Winter Sky jersey and full bib tights are in it! And then I'll proba not buy any rapha until they look good again!

    csb.

  • But the Sky stuff is not their most attractive!
