Seems reasonable, friend raced with some Easton CX forks on his Cross Check for a while, very light but quite pricey.
Downsides are probably cost, losing millions of eyelets and losing some clearance (depending on the fork)
I'll keep the originals for when i tour on it. but for general stuff I don't need the millions of eyelets.

Kinesis' own is well priced.
Genesis croix fork available for 100 @ eighteen bike. 401a-c straggler is 400. Guard mounts disc fork, not too heavy. Weight is about 700g with uncut steerer.
