  • No, this is @HoKe we're talking about.

    Put a WoundUp on it.

  • WoundUp or not, I've phoned up Mosquito bikes, they can get only the frameset, but they're going to send me a quote for a complete build, if its under a grand it would be perfect as they do ride to work, but if not I'll buy it off that shop from Amsterdam.

  • Urban Cyclery are in Wales?

  • @hoke what about a pinnacle arkose frame, and chinese carbon thru axle forks? then you have loads of options for cheap mtb wheels on ebay to single speed it and then get some hylex's

  • Ha. Ho won't ride a Pinnacle.

  • In Swansea, They're nice guys. I used to go there a lot

  • If you're;

    Then;

Don't forget to click on the "no I am rich" option.

  • saw a lovely surly crosscheck with mtb/wide bars, paul cantis and paul levers, single front ring on the way home today, anyone on-here?

    so nice

  • I've had a gensis and now have all city nature boy......no comparison in quality the nature boy wins....sorry.

  • Nope! me no likey!

Anyways, I have two options now for committing to buy the all-city,

Either pay a lump sum of 1280 euros/£931.79 including shipping to ship it here from Amsterdam for the complete bike from

    http://www.singlespeed.nl/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=52_99&products_id=1606

However, because of the size and shipping cost they'll have to separate my bike into two boxes then ship them here, which I'll need to assemble myself and hope none of the parts are damage and most likely get my lbs to service it and most likely in the future I will need to convert it to a fixed gear surely.

The second options, is mosquito bikes, because all-city doesn't do a complete bike they'll need to build the bike from scratch and to get the complete set up from the website it will cost me £1300, but I will be able to buy this bike via the ride to work scheme, (of course its limited to £1000) but because this will be built from scratch it will hopefully allow me to convert it into a fixed gear rear hub straight away and customise certain parts to my liking.

Hopefully a week will be enough time to allow me to decided which route to proceed with.

    Thoughts?

    or the other option

  • Thoughts?

    This isn't a beater.

  • or the other option.

  • nice

  • Genuine question that I don't know the answer to. How does riding fixed work on a 130 spaced hub?

  • exactly like on a 120mm except the bolts are a bit further apart.

  • Why not buy a complete Genesis on the cheap and swap all the bits over to an All-City frame?

  • Because the parts are shit?

  • Well that's what I thought, but the parts on the All-City look identical/shit too.

  • Great. Why not buy a complete All City and Genesis and swap the parts over?

  • Well that makes sense. Dunno why I but I totally forgot that 130mm hubs designed for riding fixed exist...

  • Oh and personally I wouldn't pay £1300 for that bike, Cycle Scheme or not - that is expensive as fuck for a cromoly single speed. Especially when, for comparisons sake, a Condor Fratello Disc build with 105/Rival only costs 100 quid more...

Also, surely you won't be able to test ride one before they bring it over and build it for you, Ho?

  • I have a question. I'm vaguely thinking for changing the fork on my straggler to a carbon CX disc fork. It would be an easy way of saving a huge amount of weight as the straggler fork weighs a ton.
Are there any downsides to doing this? and if not what would be a good fork to go for which doesn't break the bank?

  • Why not get the Genesis and a few nice 'upgrades' on R2W, then chuck £100 or so at it to be resprayed to your liking? Should come in well under the cost/hassle of either All City option...

  • How about just build an actual beater? Then you learn something other than how to calculate shipping, AND you don't have to take it to get serviced like a lemon, since you can do it yourself.

Also you'll be able to lock it up with relative peace of mind. You won't be fretting about chipping it. And you might actually end up with something with a bit of character that you can be proud of.

Plus you will save SO MUCH MONEY and you can spend it on your sunday bike.
