Theoretically possibly but I had fairly low but realistic aims for it which was to improve training efficiency by working to power zone not HR, track fitness changes and to analyse race performance. As the measurement is on my visibly weaker side I am encouraged to try to make that leg less of a passenger and I can notice the effect of trying to improve pedal technique etc.
Thus far the unit is allowing me to achieve those 3 aims on my training bike and race bike so I'm happy even if my legs aren't.

Yup, better than anything else (have tried stronglight,campag,sram,ta) apart from shimano in my experience.

How have you managed to make this so difficult?
Surely TSS calc is just a matter of having your zones set up correctly from one, easy to perform test? How long have you been using power for training now? I think you're just trolling us all now.

I can never get decent figures from a test - my most recent one put me at ~265 watts FTP, but I know it was bunk.
The FTP in Training Peaks right now that gave that 45.5 TSS score is 285 watts - most def not the result of a test, just me upping the value until the TSS from my commute didn't look so silly.
I could keep bumping that figure up, or I guess find a race that lasts ~1 hour, is local, and runs when I can get to it.

Could also be the case that your FTP is currently less than you would like it to be, given it's only the beginning of March.

Yeah what Dan says. If the evidence from your commute says that your ftp is set way too high, then maybe it is.

Hah, I posted that TP file on the basis that Hippo said the TSS was ridiculously high when I had the FTP set at the test value.

I think that's the point of tests - even if you don't like the numbers you get, those are your numbers. I've produced much better numbers in races than I can ever produce in training, but I still use the numbers from tests to train.
If you think you'll get better numbers off the turbo in a test, why not go to one of the open road bike sessions at the lee valley circuit or similar?

Only other possibility is if your commute is really stop start and involves sprinting away from lots of light. It'll give you a really high NP, higher than you could achieve for a steady state ride at the same RPE.

slowly becoming more tempted to get a power meter (despite reading this thread). I dont want a powertap as that would mean having an ugly wheel on my bike all the time. Thinking either garmin vector or stages as these are affordable.
Garmin would be cheaper as I wouldnt need to buy a new crankset as well..

Yeah but then you'd have crappy exustar pedals. Stages also have a decent range of crank arms. Pedals are basically a disposable item - how long does a crank arm last by comparison?
I guess you'd get l/r balance with vectors. Personally I'd save a little more and get power2max.
I thought it was a spike untill you mentioned 5 seconds. Theres a 20+ % finish to a Climb I do, that I sometimes sprint. comes after a slight downhill. Somewhere between spinning out, and grinding leg Death, you can hit a big peak Power.
