  • Why are Presta valves more common than Schrader?
I can see the benefits of Presta with skinny rims in road cycling, but with high volume tires on wide rims, why not Schrader? They work well enough on cars and you can fill them up at any gas station...

  • Presta valves require a smaller hole in the rim, losing less rim strength. Big problem for skinny rims.

  • I don't know about anyone else, but I have one bike that has to have presta (maybe 2), so the rest of my bikes have presta so I don't need to think about doing that fiddly thing with my pump.

This is especially true now you can get mtb tubes in presta.

Also schrader reminds me of the 80's.
