GRD's certainly feels fairly tough but 28mm is quite a difference to 40-50.
There's the Coolpix A, basically more or less the same thing.
There's also the sigma DP range - the DP2 is 41mm equivalent - famously not easy to get on with for many people due to the slow focusing largely.
Panasonic GM1/5 + 20mm (40mm equiv) could be an option, doesn't fold away flat but it is very small, lens would be detachable obviously. I wouldnt describe the body as tank-like but nor does it feel like it would fall apart in a week either.
