  • If I claim one of the items I have receipt for has gone missing am I:
    A) commiting fraud?
    B) at all likely to be found out?
    C) going to get a poor postie who really did deliver a parcel into trouble?

    A. Yes
    B. Possibly, mostly if your required co-conspirator grasses you up instead of playing along
    C. No

    B. is the tricky bit if you try to pull off this scam, you need to submit a claim in respect of an article for which you have a certificate of posting, and the Post Office will then ask the recipient at the address shown on that certificate to warrant that they didn't receive it. You have to ask, what's in it for them? They are getting involved in your fraud, for no reward.

  • Ah, I didn't think about them checking with the recipient.

  • Flying Pigeon, £285

    Perfect, except out of stock.

  • Can I interchange between two wheelsets, one with a shimano cassette and one with a sram (both 10 speed) without touching the indexing?

    Drivetrain is all sram otherwise

  • Yes, subject to normal manufacturing tolerances. They are supposed to be exactly aligned, but sometimes even swapping two apparently identical wheel/cassette assemblies there will be 0.1mm or so difference which is enough to slow the shifting.

  • Ta, was hoping the answer would be this.

  • Dutchie sell a decent mid range one for less than the Flying Pigeon, and with dynamo light to boot.

Used to have the singlespeed one but with drum front brake 3 years ago, was great as a pub bike, but I'd question the single speed option for London.

  • ^ Equally perfect, except I'm a short-legged 1.73m and it appears to only come in 57cm. :(

  • Would it look stoopid with no seat post showing?

  • You mean like the Danish who couldn't work out how to change saddle height?

  • Equally perfect, except I'm a short-legged 1.73m

    Get the step-thru one instead?

  • People think I'm girly enough without riding a girl's bike.

I like about 75cm from the centre of the BB to the top of the saddle, so I guess I can get a 57 to work so long as the saddle isn't 10cm tall. Maybe I'll flip the bars for that 30s path racer look.

  • Ah you can get that to work, I'm usually 77cm with the same measurement, that saddle in the picture is way too low for me.

  • That's funny, I would have thought you'd be heftier. :)

Then I think we have a winner. Thanks Teddy.

I'd question the single speed option for London.

It's for keeping at work and mimbling about in my suit of clothes round Cambridge during the day, hence the need for a chain guarded dutch type thing. We have a bridge, but no hills so SS will suffice.

  • That's funny, I would have thought you'd be heftier. :)

My heft is in girth, not height.

  • I've worn the soles of my Vibram Fivefingers out - where is the cheapest place to get a pair of Bikila Evo in a 42?

  • Is the length difference between a fizik arione and a tritone only taken off the nose?

I've had a retul fit done and only just realised it has fucked with my saddle to bar and saddle setback distances.

  • sport pursuit currently have them in a 42 at £125 plus postage, which is not much off RRP. I have no idea if that's cheaper than anywhere else. http://www.sportpursuit.com/catalog/product/view/id/486118

  • Looks like it for the most part

  • So I'm just going to bring those measurements forward ~30mm as the aliante is 275mm and the tritone is 240mm

  • Saddle angle and seatpost height may need to be tweaked when changing to that saddle

  • I'm not physically changing my saddle, I'm bringing my retul fit measurements onto my current bike.

  • Many, many ^ from last Autumn.
    Recap
Son won in-school Rollapauza 250m fixed gear sprint.
Bought 48:16 fixed gear bike for practise on rollers,
didn't source shorter cranks, (thanks for all the suggestions),
just applied a big dollop of Daddy sourced htfu.

    Attended pan-London final in December.
Entrants invited to warm up with a 500m (i.e. double distance), sprint.
    Not too many interested.
Final: led from start to finish 26.92s.
250m Sprint: 1/4 final. Led start to finish, 12.30s.
250m Sprint: 1/2 final. Led from start to finish, 12.70s.
250m Sprint: Final. No sign of his indicating arrow till the last 50m, won 12.61s.

Prize was a GBP 400 value Raleigh bike.
None on offer were as good as the 2nd hand collection I have sourced for him.

Bit of wrangling, we now have GBP 500, (as he won 2 competitions), to put to a 'proper' road bike. (He is on the list, waiting to be assessed, to try out at the Hillingdon circuit).

So GBP 1000, (maybe 1150 at a push). Suggestions?

and GBP 200 towards his first set of carbon rims in the Summer?

  • Is the length difference between a fizik arione and a tritone only taken off the nose?

Pretty sure it is, the back half of the Tritone looks very much like an Arione. I set mine up on that basis (replacing an SLR, but aligning the wide bit of the saddle not the tip of the nose) and it's working fine.
